How long have you been at it, you're doing some good things but there is always room for improvement. Getting a site ranked doesn't really happen overnight. The backlinks you are creating, are they already indexed? Check via site explorer or even market samurai. Is the site actively listed within the directories you posted to? Maybe you just need to give it some time...

Hub pages & Squidoo lens would help better than blogger...in my experiences anyways. They too are free...create those in addition to blogger....also create a word press blog...they get picked up faster & better than blogger...

Getting your client listed in sites like Yelp.com helps but the true benefit of sites like these are the citations or reviews left by customers of your clients...get some customers to leave reviews...that will help a bunch!

Make good use of Merchantcircle.com too...

Has he claimed his listing in Google Places? Bing local? Yahoo local?

Have you optimized his website? (on-page & off-page) Page titles, discriptions, H1-H2 tags, alt tags, title tags etc?

Have you submitted your clients website to Google? Bing? Yahoo?

Yes I listed them in Google Yahoo and BING, right away. I just got through confirming BING yesterday, some 45 days later after I submitted it, so there may be a problem. Google still isn't verified.

He is listed in yelp, but no reviews.

Yes several of them are loaded in yelp, been doing this for a while now.

I use Merchancircle as well.

First thing I did was load them in Google places (confirmed them) Bing, and Yahoo local's.

Have not done the optimized the websites for on and off. (is there software to do this with?)

I highly suggest you look at what his competition is doing, look at all their listings and reviews. Your client needs to have his/her customers, write reviews for his business/services. Keep up the good work and in time your client, should rank much better.

If local is what you want, truly want, you have covered the bases there.
Those sites have zero SEO connected with them. They are based on other
things. Ratings, location, relevancy, etc. Tossing out facebook, of course,
which is very unrelated to anything, really. No SEO there, either.

So, I'm not sure what else you are trying to go for.

Organic searches? There is no need.

1) Submit to major data providers
2) Fill out the profile (videos, images, relevant categories)
3) Continue to the rest of the items on David Mihm's local search guide.

"Local search" goes hand-in-hand with local organic search results too so optimize like you would for ranking on the 7-packs and 10-packs.

The first thing I do with new "local" clients is submit their data to Universal Business Listing (UBL). Costs $30 per year, but is excellent for getting lots of Name, Address, Phone match citations.

I highly recommend David Mihm's guide. He and Mike Blumenthal also created the site getlisted [dot] org to teach about local search. Mike's blog is a great resource for local optimization issues. Google his name.

Optomize his Google Places, use the key words that you have in the description and add any images and videos to page and have have people leave his reviews on the likes of Yelp etc the more sitations the better... also create a blog as well as posting articles and also create a squidoo and hub page using original related content.

Written about 5 articles and tried to post them on ezine. (The keyword phrase I am trying to rank for, has been rejected-as the city name is in the title and of course the first part of the article, thus ezine views that as a business name, thus a violation so they won't post it.)
