Where have you submitted the articles to?

How long ago did you submit them?

Have you done anything else to try to get backlinks (i.e social bookmarking, blog comments, press release....)

I would think .co.uk would be better for uk local clients, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Google "Quick indexing tool" find a free submission site. There's one at Blue-hat seo's site. Create an rss feed for your site. Go to Ping Goat, ping all your posts and rss feed. Throw up some bookmarks to each post, digg, delicious, stumbleupon...

I'm with Lee on the co.uk for the domain.

I made this silly mistake of registering a .com for a client in Canada, and only after did I notice that the first page of Google was all .CA sites.. lol

    Why fight an uphill battle...

ALSO. I remember hearing Matt Cutts talking about how even your hosting server's location can play a role for local SEO..

Maybe they don't approve your articles if they find them duplicate or useless.
I suggest you to try another ways for fast indexing. Such as social bookmarking, linking to your new site from an old indexed page and writing press release.
