Google instant ....will it level the playing field in SEO ? Or will it demand even more from Google adwords and adsense users?

Please share your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

  • I found a good article that addresses this issue, I did not write nor do I have any vested interest in it, but I found it informative ..if Posting this link breaks the Terms of service in this forum I truly apologize..

  • I think this is not a new thing. It does not change the seo techniques as no change in google search technique.

    • In MHO, it seems Google has narrowed the margin for upstarts to make a go of IM, unless they have network backing.

    • Do you even know what it is? It is new. It was released yesterday!

  • It'll mean quality of traffic should increase. I personally think that the larger firms and websites will find a decrease in quantity of traffic (due to people searching for - say - Microsoft, and then getting a bunch of other suggestions they can check out instead)

For smaller sites, we might well just see more quality traffic.

    I'm not worried
  • It will have an impact on SEO for sure. But not all time. I did a small analysis and posted it on my blog: Google Instant – What will be the impact on SEO? | Aryan Quest

We must adapt to the new feature. But as Matt Cutts said, "The best SEOs recognize, adapt, and even flourish when changes happen.”
  • SEO has been basically the same for years and I don't see it change very quickly. There are some tricks that change through time, but if you give users what they want you will always be on the winning end of the stick.

    • Remember that updates like this are less likely to affect real people
doing real world seo and following all google webmaster guidelines.

You can't expect the search world to stand still as the internet gets
morphed by apps and smartphones, ipads, etc.

I always love it the way google gets so much press on a daily basis for
just doing normal corporate things like product tweaks.

And we wonder why they stay on top.

We also have to remember that this does not affect searches (and
never will) being done from sites other than google.com. I can't even
imagine anything in the future that would remotely do this.

It's also not compatible with all browsers. Never will be. Nor all
      countries.

Google does things for itself and it's customers. We can only hope
we still get some scraps under the table.

  • I think this will favor those who rank for broad keywords and those with long tail keywords will be hurt since the searcher will no longer type the entire thing out. They'll start typing, see something that looks good that fulfills their need and click it thus favoring short keyword ranking websites.

    • How so when now with instant they can literally "scroll" through the results of all the suggested longtails without ever leaving the page?!!!! This is great for long tail rankings.

Say Im looking for a dog collar

When I type in dog collar I literally get suggested:

      dog collars
      dog collar hardware
      dog collars preppy

and I can quickly check out the first page, and If it doesnt meet my needs I can "go back" simply by deleting part of the phrase and typing in another modifier.

Google instant has changed search in a good gooood way.
  • I have actually already discovered how to take advantage of the change.

This week for example I uncovered a long tail and am already ranked number 1.

    • Google Instant is annoying... I can't search for a phrase the old fashioned way since google instant keeps changing what I type along the way. Also Google has become very slow and it's taking me too long to search for something.

Not too mention doing manual keyword research is frustrating with this new system.

Who cares about these stupid suggestions anyway? I hope Google realizes this wasn't a smart move and changes back to good old google.
  • Just turn it off, you do not have to use it.

  • I love google instant because I specialize in long tail keywords and this should help me get more traffic!

    • Really? Care to explain why so many SEO experts are saying that this is going to "kill" the long tail?
  • Hello Warriors,
I rarely give testimonials about the products I buy but this report by Mangozoom hit me hard & feel guilty if I don't share my experience. I'll make it short. I've been very concerned about these changes on Google search engine or we call it Google Instant. I've some niche products with long tail keywords that had drop from page 3 to nowhere without me touching that website.

Now, I feel confident that with this report even though it's short I can recover fast & beat again my competitors. He shared new tips on how to check your competitors without a software to my surprise. He also gave new tips on how to do your research properly.

I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to update his SEO research & analysis. I'm in no way related or a friend to mangozoom but my $10.00 was worth it. Go buy it.

    • What has that got to do with Google Instant? Google Instant is NOTHING to do with the ranking of a site.
      • [1] reply
  • Instant is a good tool. But need more SEO of your website keywords.
  • When I used to create sites, the site would be indexed by google within a week. Ever since instant, i have had more and more trouble getting a site on google at all.

The site I am talking about is: shopfivehearts(dot)com

I have added robots.txt, meta verifications, site-maps, etc. NOTHING helps!

Anyone think its because of instant or some other reason I am not realizing?

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks!

    • Yo have no idea what Google Instant is!!! It is nothing to do with indexing or ranking!
Suggest you go do some homework first and them come back:
Let me google that for you
  • I really don't see how Google Instant could harm veteran or newbie intermarketers at all. Seems to me it's just a helpful tool for people that use Google search.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see what there is to be worried about.

    • I think the worry is that sites/pages optimised for certain longtails will be kicked into touch.

Personally I think this is a legitimate concern ... but we will have to wait and see.

In the meantime I have already found a way of using it that gave me an instant Google number 1 spot

  • Google still has the same problem they always had - showing the sites people want to see in their searches. Instant does not change this, in fact, it could hurt it.

Instant can't read minds and offer the EXACT long tail you're looking for, it can only show you a few popular options. If those options don't fit, and people stop tying the unique long tail phrases they had in mind, then they will be shown SERPs that don't fit, or that don't fit as well as they used to. This could potentially have negative impression on Google as a service.

At the end of the day, the Instant suggetsion box conatins only a few selections. This doesn't encompass 1% of the possible long-tails that are required to maximize the "user experience" (i.e. return the best results). In the end, I see people ignoring it for anything but the most vauge searches, and/or Google durning it off by default.

    • I still think there may be an impact on some of my longtail seo and am testing and working hard ... although bottom line we will have to wait and see.

      John
  • Far too early to make any assumptions.. For me, it is a bit of a gimmick only of benefit to slow typers and people with only a vague idea of what they are looking for. Long tails will not be affected and this is simply because long tails = specific search queries. Why therefore would someone searching for info on "arranging flowers for weddings" be interested in Amazon or a Wikipedia article on flow control valves? People do long tail searches for the very reason that they are looking for something specific.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • You are right. Google Instant won't kill the long tail market but it will affect some of them. You heard about the "weight loss quick" and "weight loss fast" story? when you type in "weight loss" and hit the space button GI will show up results for "weight loss fast". SO why would someone go on and type in "quick"? There is no real difference between "quick" and "fast".

  • Google Instant continues to unviel top keywords as far as I am concerned it is great.

  • Google Instant doesn't make much of a difference from an SEO practictioner's standpoint.

It is basically their existing search suggest on steroids.
  • September 2010 saw the official launch of the latest leap forward in search technology from the leading search engine, Google Instant.oogle Instant displays results as you type taking their predictive search query a step further. The reason this update is having such an impact is because the new feature is sure to have an impact on website owners.Google Instant is essentially the same as your regular Google results, only your results update as you type extra words into the search box.
  • when I search Google..as a rule I will not go past 20 pages unless I am looking for incredibly detailed information ...then I will hunt it down to no end..
  • Google has improved its search results in Google immediately. The result is shown as you type. You can leave out a lot of time in their search process.
  • I thin Google instant will not effect on the SEO techniques and will not change the position of websites on SERP.Its just for showing results faster for searchers and will not change the ranking factors.

    • Well, I pretty much agree with you but I also doubt there must have been an effect of this on SEO...Only time will tell how things go!

  • i find G instant annoying to be honest. I don't think that it is as big of a deal as I once feared. When searching I normally just type my whole search phrase, and use instant as ideas for continued searches.

like say I am going to search for fried potato recipes, well instant might show fried potato pie and I MIGHT take a look at a site in those results, but normally I will normally go back and search for fried potato recipes as well.
