No. Search engines don't crawl and index emails as emails are private so having thousands of backlinks in emails, will not be counted as backlinks as search engines don't index emails.

Very true. Although it might seem dumb to some, or give people a little giggle.... if we didn't ask these questions, we'd get nowhere. By asking questions we get answers. Getting answers on the things we need to learn about means we move 'forward'. Never be afraid to ask questions.

Do you know this for a fact? Or are you just taking it on faith?

I was going to say the same thing that "Search engines don't crawl and index emails" but how the hec then does Google spy on your inbox to serve you contextual adverting in your inbox? Sneaky buggers aren't they.

    Hey Chad,
Your question takes on a whole new dimension when your email sig is used in forum posts. It is an effective way to get eyeballs on your email sig from other humans when you contribute value through your post in a forum. The search engines too index it if the forum admin allows posts to be viewed without logging in. You definitely get marks for getting your emails into forum sites that are strong domains.

No, the link can not work as backlink, because the search engines can't crawl them.

Emails are not publicly archived, so no search engine will ever crawl your email and see the links....

they don't cound for backlinks... but they do count for trafic.

I once sent an email out that was forwarded all over the place. My uncle forwarded me the email with a question about it. No idea how it got to him...

    • Agreed, search engines don't crawl and index links within individual emails but they do track the traffic from them, so there is an indirect connection there.

Indirectly... imagine sending a wonderful piece
of email to your friends to be passed along and
lots of them pass it along - with your signature
in tact, . Sure MOST will pass it along by
email, but some of them might end up posting
on their twitter pages, some on their facebook
pages, etc... and there you go, BACKLINKS !
