Google Changed its Keyword Tool Algorithm Again?

Hi guys,

I was just doing some keyword research using Google's keyword tool only to discover most of the keywords have much less competition but when you search the same keyword of Google search itself, most pages have much higher PR.

Anyone noticed this or is it just me?

For example, "make money online" used to be very competitive but do the search and let me know what you see.

Cheers,
Alex

  • I'm not quite sure what you are seeing. How are you getting the competition levels from the Google Keyword Tool?

I must admit I am getting some pretty weak sites in the top 10 @ google.com.au...

    • Thanks for your reply. Well, I tried to upload a pictures of my search results but couldn't cos I don't have a hosting account at the moment. I used the Global Monthly Search Volume feature and it shows very high volumes per month - with considerably low competition.

But then, all pages have high PR (>1.5 average) - this bit might be as result of my SEO plugin I guess

  • Do yourself a favor. Get a little adword credit and use it to test searches. I've found thats the only reliable way to be certain of traffic

    • Thanks for the advice; I'll sure give that a try.

  • In the Google Keyword Tool, the competition has always been related to the Adwords Advertiser Competition.

PR doesn't play a significant role, if any, with regards to adwords competition.

When you do a Google search for the terms your researching, what is the competition of ads like?

Hopefully you're not basing that competition indicator and relating it to the competition in the organic listings, as there is just no relationship there.
  • Am not sure about this but I cant see any changes at my end.

    Dennis
