Question For The SEO Experts

I'm putting together a site with ten different topics. I was told by another marketer that I should create a site for each topic and then link it all to the main site because google likes a more niche site than a broad site.

Anyone know if this is indeed true? Of course I don't want to have to create 11 sites if I don't have to. Love to get your advice.

  • Well, it is better to make a site for each different topic than put them all on the same site. If you can't afford domains and such, you can make different topic categories in the main site. It is no good for SEO, though.
  • Hey Gina,

Although it is true that if you have several websites up that focus on each keyword or keyword phrase, it can help your SEO, but it is not necessary. Actually it is up for each person's interpretation.

If you have one website but write articles or content that contains each keyword and keyword phrase and direct it back to your main site, it is just as effective. That will cover all bases to grab traffic for all keywords and phrases.

As a matter of fact, the trend now is to make videos and upload to public video host sites with tags on each keyword with links back to your main site, and submission of articles to article directories, and bookmarking your site to social media sites and the like, are more effective on getting the same thing done. Making many sites, in my opinion is a LOT of work!

    • That's right, good advice in here. I would do both though. If you're outsourcing most of the work, then it's not that much work...
  • I'm not an seo expert, but I have had a good deal of success with it. Anyways, well it depends how much the topics vary.

I think you should center a website around keyword, unless you are trying to create a brand name, and just have supporting content.

    That's a microniche to me.

For example, I'll target the keyword "yoga mastery", and then buy a domain name at www.yogamastery.com.

Then I'll center my website around tips and videos on how you can master yoga.

    • Exactly. No one can really tell until they know how related or unrelated the topics are. If they are generally related then I build ONE site. Aim keywords to particular pages and try to grow it as an authority site under that general topic. If they are entirely different then yes multiple sites

  • I also recommend, creating a site on one specific topic. You should also consider that getting good rankings, many visitors, happy visitors that come back again and again... takes a lot of time. So, why don't you just get started on one single topic first and once get good rankings, visitors, subscribers... you start a new site?

    • As someone else stated, this is definitely one that has for a long time been and will continue to be "up to interpretation".

What I like/find works best is to dedicate each site to one niche. Plugging your main keyword in the domain name can also prove beneficial. I have gotten good results this way
