Got De-Indexed both by Google and Yahoo-What's wrong?

Can anyone tell what's wrong.Was in page 1 for months now but got some articles,PressRelease and bookmarking backlinks recently and I re-direct the site to another product site ranked no 1 for those keywords as an affiliate but I woke up last Sunday to see it removed or say de-indexed by both google and yahoo the same day.What's happening and what can be done to restore it back?

  • Did you do anything spammy? This could include buying links, trading links or getting links from known link farms. Maybe you used some kind of code in your website (like using text the same color as your background) which the search engines flag.

    • Can't think of any thing like that,I once used IMAutomator sometimes.Could this be the problem or the redirection to another site?
  • How did you handle the redirection?

    Did you do a 301 redirect via .htaccess, or some other method? (If the latter, what was it?)

  • You're welcome To do a 301 redirect, it can vary depending on your host. Usually it's a case of adding the following sort of thing to your .htaccess file though. Ask your host (or on here) if in doubt

    Then change the www.newdomain.com bit as necessary. And you can check if the 301 redirect works correctly using a tool such as Search Engine Friendly Redirect Checker

    It can be tricky though (and vary depending on host), so ask your host first and foremost if in doubt.
  • You might have done something against the policies of these search engines.
    For Google, go to the webmaster tools and re include your website for consideration.
