PR Doesn't matter for ads...

So I'm doing this deal last night for an ad spot...

For a site of mine that has about 3,000 backlinks, and has high google rankings, for a very nice targeted keyword ... As well, I have gotten several high pagerank backlinks to the site.

So I was charging a 'very nice' rate for the spot.... So we're about to finish the deal, and suddenly he tell's me he needs to check something... So I'm like, "OK", and just waited for what 'he was checking'.

Out of the blue he goes "wait.. your site has no pr", and suddenly he's not so interested anymore... he said that things just don't match up, having high rankings, and no Pagerank.

I'm thinking "DUDE, how the heck is my PR Relevant in selling you an ad spot?

Of course, I didn't voice that... But my real question for everyone is, why is it so relevant that I am a pr something, just to sell an ad spot... As far as I'm concerned, the ads are no follow anyway ...

Thoughts?

Caleb

Sounds like he's clueless. Did you inform him about the nofollow? He might not even know what that means.

Hadn't informed him of that... But he wasn't looking for a homepage link.. .or for a link at all, he just wanted his brand on my site.

I don't think nofollow should have even been discussed, since he clearly expressed that as his purpose.

Now, he wants me in his $1/per/lead affiliate program.

If PR is so important how come PR0 sites can easily rank above established, high PR authority sites for certain keywords? I know this is possible from personal experience.

Anyway, if I was buying an ad spot I would looking for targeted traffic. As you say, what's PR got to do with it?

You're exactly right, Caleb. Your high-ranking (and I'm assuming high-traffic) site is worth a heck of alot more to an advertiser than a site that only offers a high PR. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that 99% of people don't even know what PR is, so it's not like they're going to see that you have a low PR and refuse to click on any of your ads. He's just trying to low-ball you.

Dude! Are you looking to make sales and profits, OR are you looking to game Google...

If the latter, I don't want you to buy advertising from me, because in a few months, you will stop paying me when you realize that PageRank does not pay your bills...

      Thank you for calling...

      Bye...
