No it's not the right way to do it.

However, you'll likely have a bunch of people pop in here and tell you that it is.

In the end, you'll have to decide for yourself and accept any and all results, consequences, etc. for the actions you take.

To be honest, I personally haven't thought much of profile page backlinks for a long time. I think that method has been 'done' to death and Google knows that. Finding a good mixture of link types is what you want to go for. ie - a few good homepage links. Some contextual links. Etc etc. Also, links from pages that have strong content seem to work out well for me. If you get links from pages that also have links pointing to them will add lots of power.

There are better ways but you have to start somewhere.

If you really want to created some quality backlinks I suggest you do them manually at first. Get some high ranking sites that are relevant to your niche and post worthy comments there.

Also, write some good articles and submit them to the top artilce directories with anchor text for your main keywords. Then after they have been approved and published gather those links and bookmark them.

Make sure to develop a plan you can stick to and do these things everyday and you will start to build quality backlinks and some traffic to your site as well.

There are many good posts here which will help you understand what needs to be done and how to go about doing it. Search function is your friend!

You are on the right track but you went about it the wrong way and you need to see the big picture on backlinking.

Profile backlinking is but one way of many to get backlinks to a site. When creating those profile backlinks you don't just want any old crappy profile backlinks you need to really research to find the best type profile backlink to use.

This can be used for just about any backlink that you are attempting to use.

1] You need to find relevant topics to use when linking back to your site. Google will not really give you a second glance if you are using a slew of irrelative sites to link to your site. You will get credit for the links don't get me wrong here but the quality score of those links will be not worth your time creating. When looking for forums to create profile backlinks or any other site to create a backlink be sure that topic is relative to your topic of your site....ex: if your site is about Shoes the you want to find topics that are relative to shoes like socks, boots, sandals, etc....getting a million links from sites about dogs or cats will get you no where fast.

2] This is controversial as always but use do follow links so that Google can find and count your link towards your site....you can still use no follow links as they still count but not as much as do follow links.

3] Find Higher Page Ranked sites for backlinks (by checking the PR of the domain not the page) for your site. I personally use PR3 - PR8 backlinks..I like to mix them up a bit but the higher the PR the better.

4] Mix it up and use more than one type of backlink strategy for your site. You said that you are using profile backlinks for your site....I would also incorporate other linking strategies as well to give your backlinking portfolio a mixture of all types of backlinks. I personally use blog commenting, article marketing, profile backlinks, social bookmarks, and web 2.0 sites in my strategy.

There you go....a well rounded collection of strategies that you can use to float your site to the top....do a little everyday and be consistent in your efforts and in time your site will reap the rewards of your labor.

It's a question that will pull highly subjective theories, which will usually end up more or less in a morally conflicting discussion leading to it's effectiveness in SEO and it's long term influence/consequences.

It's one of the countless theories of internet marketing that gets split into more opinionated responses than anything else.

Forum back-linking is used massively for Search Engine Optimization and depending on the quantity and quality of those back-links it will/will not be effective. It is definitely one of the most commonly used forms of back-linking (another is blog posting) to obtain back-links from high PR websites.

Whether we agree or not on what the right way is, the fact is that method is one way to accomplish back links, and it still works. It may not down the road, so don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Many theory's on this.
I often create a blog with all in one seo plugin and get 600 high pr back links to it.
The blog has no content and yet it will get to page one of google for competitive searches.
While I am rising up the ranks through profile backlinks alone I get my content created.
Very important to then have link diversity and to have quite a few no follow backlinks (easy using social bookmarking)
For me this is not a theory but an established fact.
With enough profile back links you could rank on Google for pink elephants where this word does not appear anywhere on your website.

If you have links from your niche sites then it is good other wise it is not very useful in terms of SEO. Also only profile creation is not sufficient we must have to post something regularly.

Link diversity is key. Do not stick to one source of backlinks. Mix in blog commenting, directory submissions, articles etc.

I would not dismiss profile links so lightly. They still work for me.

I tried that too, using Paulie Ciara backlinks Free High PR, Do-Follow weekly backlinks. It works pretty well in my site I got a link from the site that has PR5-PR9.

It's stupid to say that.. Worthless? LoL! So let's just say that Google catched on about this "profile-backlinking"-stuff.. What do they do? Nothing I think, maybe they made som calculations on how many profile-backlinks each website have, and if a website have 600 profile-backlinks - that may be suspicious, because I don't think that ANYONE can controle 600 logins etc. etc... And GoogleBOT may have the same "thought".

I don't think profile-backlinks are worthless - why should they be? Just because some webmasters spammed the crap out of it? Narh.. Because BEFORE any webmaster spammed these sites, there were real users who put a link on their profile - just because they could.. So these REAL users and VALUABLE users should also take a hit? I don't think so!

It's the same thing as telling me that backlinks from blogposts is worthless.

Google may find those "abusers" - and if they do - these are screwed..

Nope. This can't be true cause it would be too easy to knock out competition.

There are pieces of software that can blast out 20,000+ profile links multiple times a day. It would be too easy to knock out all your competition.

20.000 profile-backlinks multiple times per day? Come on... Not 20.000 uniques every day, and I DO think that abusers who use this kind of SPAM-SOFTWARE will get catched.

There is a piece of software that can do this.

It's very expensive and requires a dedicated server but people do use it everyday.

My point is that if the link hurt you, these people would just knock everyone off the search engine listings by blasting links all day long.

Here is the feedback i got after trying their service. It works pretty well. I saw an increase in 100 more readers a day for the last 3 days. I may be trying one more package on another site and see how well it work. It could be because the site i am using already has many backlinks.....

These kinds of backlinks really can't hurt you...they just don't help that much. They're good for building a foundation of links to your site, but ultimately you want to build backlinks with articles and blog comments. The best backlinks come naturally...

There are better ways to get more powerful backlinks, but at the end of the day I always say a link is a link. Even if you have a bunch of low wight links, you might turn off some newbies from trying their hand at your niche if you have a massive amount of links. I personally like commenting on blogs (properly) with top commentator plugins because while the link values are low, it helps hide my high quality links if someone goes searching through my links for potential places to get links. I would recommend diversifying your link building. Throw in some blog comments, social bookmarking, articles, etc.

I am success with the profile backlinks. There are several SEO guys that using such backlinks. I personally comfort using this kind of backlinks, but please don't put your backlinking efforts only to profile backlinks.

Manually? How long you will achieve & crush your competitors if you do it by manual.

There are many tools that will help you semi/automatic blast your backlinks process. A few months ago I done all the backlinks by manuall process and none of my targeted keywords move up to #1 Google.

Agree, the profile links is worth for your backlinks efforts.
