I would keep the keyword density down to under 3%. We don't want to upset Google and look like we are trying to hard....:-)

  • There is no correct answer. You would have to know exactly what was in Google's Algorithm.

As a general rule I will put the phrase in the Title Tag and again in the first 250 words. Then in the last paragraph.

It truly is guess work. And what is more important is the incoming authority links and anchor text.

If you want to test you could always find the top 10 results for your keyword phrase. Then dump them into MS Word. Search the keyword phrase... then do the math using WordPress's Word Count feature.

This is all most software does to get an average.

But what if you find Result 3 is 10% and result 8 is 1%?

Keyword Density is speculation. And Proximity of keywords can play a very large role in the their usefulness.

Many of my sites have been around for more than a decade now. I have changed the content over and over... gone from one platform to another and NOT lost my rankings.

Wouldn't you think if keyword density were so important my rankings would have changed?

    Food for thought.

Its not really a fine art. Anything between 2 to 5%

I've been doing fine with 1% keyword density and getting 1st page results for my keywords. I guess it varies in the niche you are and the length of your blog post.

What you mean? A percentage is a percentage, no matter the length of the text, right?

I would recommend just writing naturally. Then check your keyword density and if it's under 1% then try to fit your keyword into a few places where it will flow well. Remember, you want to keep your posts easily readable for visitors.
