Google Sues Multiple Advertisers (and why it matters to you)

Google has announced they are suing multiple advertisers using Adwords for repeated policy violations. In this case it seems to be aimed at online pharmacies but I think the statement made is important:

Google Sues Multiple Advertisers | mThink - Revenue Performance

Litigation of this kind should act as a serious deterrent to anyone thinking about circumventing our policies to advertise illegally on Google. As we identify additional bad actors, we will add them to the lawsuit.
How many people have purchased products (WSOs for example) that offer various ways to trick quality score etc?

How many people overtly break TOS to get ads to run (and not just on Google).

I think we will see more lawsuits like this as time passes- something to keep in mind when you try to break sites' TOS to make a buck.

It was going to happen with all the tricks going on. This would give semi scammers and full scammers something to think about

To be honest it looks like its targeting pharmacies from that link, it appears to be just as much about a moral issue (ie not selling dangerous crap) as a cheating one?

Google clearly says: "Litigation of this kind should act as a serious deterrent to anyone thinking about circumventing our policies to advertise illegally on Google. As we identify additional bad actors, we will add them to the lawsuit."

So, no. It's not just about pharmacies.

But even with Google testing out the Advertisers to see who is in fact breaking the TOS the Advertisers will simply step up their game , change their methods and continue with their work. Its something Google will never be able to cut out !

I don't know why people try to bend Googles advertising rules. If people take the time to understand how Google works, what is acceptable and what isn't then they will do so much better in online advertising. Instead of spending time learning how to break the rules why don't they spend time learning how to comply with the rules and build a legitimate business! Aaaargh, it pisses me off when people think rules don't apply to them! There are plenty of other advertising platforms that will accommodate their needs.

Google is interested in protecting their brand, it makes sense that they would go after advertisers who make their text ads appear low quality or scammy.

Agreed....as soon as Google becomes a spammerama haven like MySpace and Twitter, it will leave the door open for competitors.
