High PR domain queries

Hello World. I plan on getting in the high PR domain name game pretty soon, but I have several questions about them:

1. How can I ensure that the domain I bought retains its PR and its backlinks that it already got?

2. Is it possible to rank for highly competitive keywords with a high PR domain? I mean I know I'll never rank for the super keywords like weight loss, muscle building, or the like. Just keywords that you probably wouldn't go for on a new site.

3. How can the site be monetized? I was thinking getting some keywords, build a Wordpress blog with ten or so unique keyword rich articles, and put Clickbank, Adsense, and/or Amazon on it. Any other ideas?

4. How long would it take for my site/domain to appear on the SERPs? And do I need to social bookmark and ping it?

5. Another avenue I was exploring was web directories. Is there a WP Plugin that allows me to create one?

6. In addition, how would I go about selling links/ads on the directory?

I may have more, that's all I can think of now.

  • You should first start by seeing where the links are coming from. If the links are coming from a few different forums and they do not disclose the account login details to you then it is likely they will be switching it the second you buy the domain. You may also want to see how long the site has been indexed what there means of income where one it before. It the site already uses a wordpress theme and if it was optimized already. There really is a lot to watch out for when purchasing one of these domains. However it could make building the site that much more easy since it already has most of what you need to get started. Although it could also be a down fall if you are just renting the domain from the host for then you have to use the panel the site already has inorder to make any changes and if you are familiar with one panel and not another it could be a huge pain.
  • Yea, I would do it on a case by case basis. If they have high pagerank, the first question to ask is why are they selling it? Maybe profits aren't that good?
  • High page rank domains drop all the time the same as non applicable ranked domains, the trouble is that the higher the page rank the more people are competing to snag it and the more chance that it is vapor-rank.

What you need to do as stated is check where these links are coming from and if they are permanent, it is easy as hell to pay a small fee to someone and get a link on every page of a forum which gives page rank and then simply put it up for sale and watch it lose everything as soon as you pull funding, and it is very black hat...basically fraud as you are advertising a sale based on false claims.

    Caveat Emptor.

Seo Spyglass is one of the main tools I use in finding out where domains have been and where they are going, it is stellar.
  • Thanks for the insight, guys! I was planning on buying the domains from Godaddy Auctions. Though my other questions still need answers.

    • One important thing to know is the PR can change. That is why a PR 5 with 30 backlinks is much cheaper than one with 3000 backlinks; it is considered more stable to have more backlinks.

Make sure that you put a site on the domain as soon as you buy it, otherwise the PR will very likely drop. And that means spending lots of money for nothing.

Also, try to ensure the new site is similar to the previous old site in terms of subject. A totally new site can trigger Google to drop the PR.

A less risky way is to buy a whole site (not plain domain) with PR.

      Good luck.

  • Google has not updated toolbar PR for nearly 6 months. I would be very careful if I were you. I suspect we may see some very large changes when the next update comes.
  • Anyone else have any insight? Especially on the questions I asked in the OP?
  • My own though about this is the buying a domain name just because of a high PR is not very advisable, because domains are not the one with PR,its webpages that do have unless you are buying a whole site.Changing the webpages to your own would just start you up from the scrtach to rank those pages.Unless you got a very high traffic domain to its index page,it doesn't worth it.A better option is to get a whole site and/or a domain with exsisting high traffic.
