Hi warriors,
I have never varied my anchor text because I just concentrate on one keyword. Now the problem is I want to rank for two keywords, which of course means that I will have to get two different anchor texts. So will this hurt my rankings?Terry Kyle said that to get the best result we should concentrate on just one anchor text, what do you think?

As an example, lets say there are two keywords like "make money online" and "earn money online".If you wanted to rank for both these keywords would you create two separate websites or just a single website concentrating on both these keywords?

Google's LSI should get you ranking for keywords that are that similar. If you're going to vary your anchor text, make sure you're doing it with a different page on the same site. So that each anchor points to a separate page optimized for that term.

      Horse Mess

The home page or any page for that matter of a website can be optimized for more than one search term with multiple different anchor test combinations pointing at it

      here's an example

      888.com

number one on google.co.uk for the following competetive search terms

      online poker
      online casino
      online blackjack

So long as a page is relevant and has the link quality it can rank

If you vary the anchor text in your links, It will look more natural to the search engines and improve your rankings. You can optimize your page to support multiple search terms.

Varying your anchor text will not hurt your site ranking in any way. It can only improve your rankings for new keywords you will be focusing on.

What Terry Kyle meant is that always focus on one anchor text for any specific keyword you want to rank for. If you want to rank for new keywords, than simply use the appropriate anchor text for the new keyword.

However... Don't forget to keep building links to your first keyword if you want to keep your rankings.

Agreed with you guys, the text surrounding the keyword must be related to be more on competing in the market, i think you should create two different websites to link on with your two keywords with relevancy.

A highly respected Internet Marketer that makes over 5K a month with Adsense alone highly suggested to me a few years ago to vary your anchor text.

    He said to have
60% of backlinks with your keyword ( blue widgets for sale)
30% of them a variation of this (widgets for sale)
    10% uses the URL (www.bluewidgetsforsale.com)

IMO, varying your anchor text will help, especially if they are synonyms.

Are you referring to your inbound links?

If so, you SHOULD be varying your anchor text. If you're building every single link with the same anchor text it looks much, much less natural. You should build your links to relevant pages for multiple keywords (both home page and deep links) and also be sure to throw in some links with your websites URL as anchor text as opposed to a keyword to keep it looking natural.

Perhaps a little clarification is needed for my reply.

I'm assuming this person isn't an established company doing a lot of business on the web. He's probably launching a very small site or building links for someone else's very small site. In such a case, focusing your link building efforts on the primary keyword for a given page will give you more bang for your buck.

On a massive scale, yes, varying your anchor text looks more natural and will help you rank for other terms as well. The odds that this person is building links on that scale, for himself or others, is low. In both cases this is a long term strategy. To get a new site ranking, focus on one term per page to start and then add more over time. If you're doing a short engagement for a client, focus on one term per page to give a greater boost to a single, more valuable term so that you have a clear, measured impact on their business.

We need to walk before we can run, folks.

If you keywords are related to one theme just like you say "make money online' and 'earn money online' they both keyword are related to one theme and meaning also same.
so you don't need to create 2 website one website each keyword just target your both keywords in your one website and upload quality content and try to do good SEO works so definitely you get ranking soon for your website for these both keywords.

I heard that we should use different keywords in different anchor text to improve more pages, not only just working for the keywords for homepage or so... something like 'make money online' and 'make money at home',,, etc. I guess so.
