Everybody always says that you should use a .COM, .NET, or .ORG domain name.

But is that actually true?

Does Google really dislike .INFO and .BIZ domains?

If so... why?

Thanks,

John

This question has been asked so many times it's not even funny. I don't have the whole explanation for you but the short answer is no they don't dislike them. There are tons of high ranking, profitable .info and .biz sites.

Search for your question and you'll find more than enough answers.

I believe no one can clearly help you on this question. But I always stick with .com, .net and .org.

There are always "EXCEPTIONS" though. Try to search for "Matt" on US Google, and you will see ma.tt somewhere around at the 1st and 2nd position and this site even outranks Matt Cutts' blog... yes, ma.tt is owned by the founder of Wordpress who is Matt Mullenweg. But after all, with an extremely weird domain extension, uh?

Hope it helps you a little.

PS : A simple rule of why people always stick with .com, .net and .org is because they look more legitimate in the eyes of users, unless you're already an established brand or a celebrity that has the power to neglect this issue entirely. Say, Megan Fox can always have a domain name for herself like MeganFox.funnyabc123 .... People will just enter this website once they know it's officially owned by Megan Fox regardless of how the domain name looks like.

PPS : And yes, Google will never ever dislike .info, .biz or any other unknown domain extensions. But through so much research and testing from experienced SEO marketers, it's really good to always stick with top level domain extensions which are .com, .net and .org.

Echoing the two previous posts...you can rank high for .info and .biz (I don't have any .biz, but do have .info domains that have top 3 rankings).

With that said, anything serious I do is with a .com's.

Another good example will be this keyword Black Friday, which is blackfriday.info at the 1st position.

But I will still stick to the .com rule as I don't wanna reinvent the wheel unless I really do have the time to brand whatever domain I want.

I can always brand myself or my business with a silly domain name like abc123.o0omlm6789.. LOL

If your primary goal is to profit + building niche sites, then my recommendation will always be top level domain extensions.

I have never worked on a BIZ domain.

For INFO domain, I have not had problems to rank, though I have seen people claim that. I don't have quantitative analyses of my ranking efforts for INFO ever done, so I can not give concrete numbers. But my gutfeel of the work that had been involved did not vary much compared to my usual com or net domains.

This is just my experience, and may not necessarily match with everyone else's - remember, I don't go for INFO domains much simply because of the conventional credibility in people's eyes (nothing to do with SEO), so my experience in SEO-ing INFO domains is not too much although I have done this before.

i think .INfO .BIZ is save to .com, the pagerank is care about your website content, not domain

    Good answer, Wyatt. Thanks.

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some new bit of info that suggested the Big G took a dim view on .INFO and .BIZ.

    Regards,

    John

Google give equal importance to all domains whether it .com or .info or anything else...Although, if you are searching geographically for example, searching in google.co.in will give more importance to .in or .co.in domains...similar is the case with other geographical domains..but if you are searching in google.com, it gives equal importance to all domains..the only thing it counts that how much a particular domain optimized.

No, I don't think that's true. When people say that you should use .com, it's mainly so you make it easier for your website visitors to remember your website, it has nothing to do with your rankings in any of the search engines.

I too agree, there is no issue of Google disliking some domains like .info and .biz. Why would they do so? If you are popular enough you will get the rank no matter whatsoever domain you own.
