LSI is a newer mathematical way to search through a large group of documents and find those with similar content. It is based on a mathematical algorithm that removes all non-content words and then compares the remaining content to other documents. Unlike SEO, the larger the database the better LSI technology works.

    1. LSI
    2. LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing. It is an algorithm for calculating how similar two or more web pages are.How Does LSI Work
    3. LSI analyzes keyword distribution over a set of documents. It ignores unimportant parts of speech such as prepositions and filler words. The result is a database of content used to compare documents.Who Uses LSI
    4. Google acquired the company Applied Symantec in 2002. This acquisition gave Google access to LSI technology. What are the Applications of LSI
    5. LSI is a fast way of searching a large collection of documents for similar content. For example, term papers can be compared to others to check for cheating. How do SEO and LSI Differ
    6. SEO looks directly for keywords in a given document and is better for smaller collections. LSI looks for similar content based on a mathematical formula and is well suited for large databases.

LSI stands for "Latent Semantic Indexing" and SEO stands for search engine optimization.LSI is an indexing and retrieval method that uses a mathematical technique called Singular Value Decomposition to identify patterns in the relationships between the terms and concepts contained in an unstructured collection of text.

LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing.Latent semantic indexing adds an important step to the document indexing process. LSI considers documents that have many words in common to be semantically close, and ones with few words in common to be semantically distant.

Would like a more simple explanation?

If I write an article about dogs, I don't want to use the word "dog" repeatedly.

I can use other words that mean "dog" and google recognizes what I'm talking about. So an article about dogs might also include references to

          puppy
          pups
          pooch
          best friend
          canine

That's a simple one - but clearly it makes writing better because you are targeting your keyword and the great google understands what you mean.

You will see LSA and LSI - which pretty much are the same - but what you to need to know is writing for LSI is using synonyms for your keywords to keep from overusing those keywords. This increases the quality of your content and thus increases your search engine optimization.

LSI is a methodology involving statistical probability and correlation that helps deducing the semantic distance between words. It's obviously a complex methodology but can be easily applied to understand the relation between certain words in a paragraph or in a document. This methodology is being used while indexing a page in the search engine's database. Google has simply updated its crawler-program to accommodate LSI and has moved towards a more relevant rating list.

LSI is confusing initially...but all of us do not have to worry..it is for those who just spam their content too much...else the rest are safe.

I see several wiki answers posted - but it's much more simple than people think.

When you write - write for PEOPLE rather than spamming keywords for a search engine. When put that way, it makes more sense.

LSi is a way for a search engine to categorise your page properly.

For example if you use the phrase "Paris Hilton", you could be talking about a celebrity, or about the hotel in the capital city of France.

In order to decide which one you mean a search engine will examine the other words on your page and try to tell which "Paris Hilton" you mean.

If you are writing natural content mean for human readers you will be using "LSI optimisation" as a byproduct.

They aren't the same thing as I understand it - LSI is nothing but relating words to each other. I remember references to referential integrity on a couple in depth geek-type SEO forums quite some time ago but nothing much since then until Stompernet adopted it.

Referential integrity (simplistic - but as I understand it) is database oriented where primary keywords must be related to similar terms (foreign words) in the the database for it to work. If the keywords are not related in the data base it results in a "break" (but not sure what exactly is broken:p). I may have that totally wrong - but that's my impression of what I've read about it. (Talk about simplistic!)

As I understand it, referential integrity is basically building your own dictionary of synonyms in the database.

The only references I've seen advising use of RI for basic marketing is from Stompernet. For purposes of new marketers - I think this way too much for them to comprehend, let alone use right away.

Now I wonder how many people here are using RI routinely.

LSI contributes an significant step to the document indexing process. LSI looks at the documents that have lots of wordsare similar in it . It will be semantically shut down, and ones with few words in common to be semantically it will be removed.

Latent Semantic Indexing is something new to me as an new SEO. For what I've observed in this forum LSI function is to filtered the articles through keywords that have similar to others if the system detects spamming it will be totally closed on the other hand it will be remain and constant.
