I just put up a new website and I want to start getting incoming links. How many is acceptable so that google doesn't "sandbox" it. I plan on doing article marketing, directories, and social bookmarks.

I don't know the exact number, but I wouldn't think 10-20 per day would be too much if it is a brand new site. The thing is you never know how many of those google will actually find in a day. Some directories don't approve your link same day.

I would do a slow steady pace with similar amounts per day for a while. Then if you have time bump it up a bit. If your site is 6 months to a year old you could probably do more than that.

Start slow build like 10 a day for a while. As your site ages then you can speed up.

Another factor worth thinking about it is that it takes Google time to index links. Just becuase you built a link doesnt mean that google indexes it. So either build more links knowing they get indexed slowly at times or build less and focus on getting them index through other methods.

If you are not doing spamming and build quality back links, then there is no limit. But don't build too many links in a day, this will look like spamming. 30-40 are enough in a day, for a new website
