I am curious does anyone know if google is re configuring their index. For one of my strongest sites was sitting in the number 1 spot for a given term and has been wiped off the face of the earth. I went through about 10 pages and my site was no where to be found. However when I do an exact search it is still showing my site in the number 4 or 5 spot.

LOL This one is really bad though. I have just gone through over ten of my top keywords for this site and every single one has been wipped off the face of the earth. I am even trying to find them for exact terms and nothing other then my main keyword for the exact term is being found. I am finding 1000s of my articles softwares and videos for these terms but nothing pointing directly to my site. I just check my analytics as well havent gotten a single search term in about 6 days for this site when it was getting over 100 different search terms a day.

Yes you definately cannot rely on Google. Make sure you diversify your traffic sources. Aim to get 30% or lower from Google and the rest from other sources. It is a great idea to get links from other websites in the same niche as yours - swap links if necessary or buy banner ads on sites. I've seen many websites slapped by Google recently and lots of Adwords campaigns closed for no reason.

No I actually havent done any work on this site for about a month now. Because of where it was located. I have been focused on 2 other sites of mine that needed alot of work and backlinks. I know google does this every now and again but I find it hard to believe that every single keyword this site was targeting it is not now where to be found. While the site is still indexed and has actually gained a few pages I didnt even know I have created.

The only thing I can think of for them doing a re config on my site. Is that for all the keywords they where showing my main page. When other pages on this site would have gone much much higher for the given terms. However the only page they where showing for each and every keyword for the site was for the main page. So maybe they are just fixing this which would mean I would have another 20 or so top 3 spots.

I checked another site I built shortly after this one and have done far less work on it and it is still climbing for a very very competitive term and is currently sitting in the number 6 spot for the most competitive term the site is targeting. However the site I put the most work in has just about vanished from the serps for just about all the keywords I was targeting.

As I said it isnt a huge deal at the moment since it is a spring time site but I would like to get it back up to the top spots for the xmas rush since alot of the products on it will be great xmas gifts.

Well, if you put lots of effort into getting the site to #1 and then once you got there you just completely stopped adding content and backlinks, then that is probably what caused the problem.

Think about this from Google's perspective. We have this site that's updating consistently and getting links consistently. This must be a hell of a site. Let's rank it #1.

Wait a minute, this site has been #1 for a month now and the new content and links stopped happening. We made a mistake. Bye Bye.

You can't just stop working on a website once it gets #1. In fact, I would say that once you have a website there, it's super important to at least maintain the efforts that got you there. If you've build up a certain amount of link velocity and then all of the sudden, it drops dramatically, you can expect to lose some rankings.

I'd say start adding content and more backlinks and hope for the best.

Its not that I have completely stopped my efforts with the site I just didnt need to do to much. For the site is only a few months old and in the first month I was able to generate over 77k backlinks to the site. So I simply slowed down my efforts to let google cope with the massive promotional efforts I was doing on this site. So I have built say a few hundred links since I got to the number 1 spot but those few hundred links are spread through out a couple of months instead of a one month attack that generates a few thousand links in a very short period of time. Yes it is all 100% ethical and google actually likes the way I achieve these numbers since it adds to my content and builds up their search database.

Look up the term link velocity. That will help explain my point.

The only problem with diversifying away from SEO is the fact that aside from building a list, almost all other forms of traffic lack the ability to drive traffic as targeted as search engines. This has just been my experience. Certainly, others experience may vary.

It doesn't mean that you're site is in number one ranking you just didn't need to do much with it. Its normal to google updating the algorithm but it will back to where it was when google is done.
