How important are forum posts urls ?

Hello.

I'm starting a new website, 90% with forums. I have two options, the first to use the portal's build-in forum module (very good actually) or to use a 3rd party forum.

The 3rd party forum has a shorter post url path and takes the post title as part of the url.

How important is that for SE and SEO ? Should i go for the second option just for the friendly url ?

thanks

I would go with the one that uses the post title as part of the URL. I see forum posts show up on SERPs more often when they use the post title in the URL. I'm thinking that may be beneficial to you since I doubt you want to sit around building links to posts.

This forum (warriors) use that also. Digitalpoint.com doesn't.

I'm not sure what to do, that is why i ask for evidence.

      thanks

    It depends.

The one with crappy URLs might actually have more important SEO-friendly features (not to mention more important features that your users and administrators & moderators might need/like).

The one with nice SEO-friendly URLs might absolutely suck at all other aspects of SEO. And it might not have any of the great features your users and administrators & moderations might need/like.

You have to weigh ALL factors when making a choice like this... NOT just SEO-friendly URLs vs. dynamic/query string URLs.

I have installed and used both forum modules. The second has the url rewrite and it is a bit faster. Has also some added features.

The build-in forums of the portal have one major advantage, they are very closely intergated with the whole core. But no url rewrite.

So my question is ONLY for the url rewrite. If it gives me some weight in SEO, then i will go with that.

      thanks
