Ok......how common is this?

My site has only been up for 1 week and I am number 4 on page 1 in google for my targeted keyword. I don't even have all of my content up yet, just basic pages, about 10 articles, some pics...not a whole lot, just some basic onsite SEO. I think I have maybe 5 backlinks? Is this just a fluke? How often does your rank in google change?

I'm a complete newb and was in total shock today when I googled my keyword phrase and there it was...my site. Holy cow.

I don't know how long that's gonna last but I did the happy dance anyway lol.

  • Good work. Have you confirmed this by checking through an anonymous proxy? Google must have indexed you well, and liked your articles. I too am surprised by how little competition there is for some keywords for some of my clients sites.

    • How do I check thru an anonymous proxy? Lol like I said I am a complete newbie to all this.

      Thanks.
  • Try www.pagewash.com or hidemyass.com or something. I just like an 'independent' source to confirm my findings.
  • Ya I suppose it depends on what key words you are ranking on. If its a super micro niche I would say that makes sense. Now do some deep seo and get to number 1!! Good start tho!
  • Woohhoo!! Yep #4!! I am ecstatic. This gives me even more motivation to start adding even more content to my site!! The google Gods must be feeling gracious!
  • alright the good news first

Nice dry run to learn the power of keywords in domain and getting some link building under your belt. Kind of bad news -Why did you choose those keywords though? I may be wrong but the term never has gotten much searches. In fact right now its showing nil in Googles keyword tool. What did you do for keyword research? and what did it show you?

    • I am assuming you are referring to the site in my signature and assuming my targeted keywords are "best hairstyling tips" in which case you are right, there is zero search for that in google. My keywords for that site are actually "hairstyling tips" for which google showed approx. 5900 searches for that keyword. That site is currently on page 8 of google and is also roughly a week and half old so I still have plenty of work to do on it. That site is intended to be my long term goal site, I want it to eventually (years from now I know) become an authority site.

In my OP I was actually talking about a different site, but I do appreciate your research for me!

  • Its just normal to google but that rankings of yours now is only a short term period when google is done for updating its algorithm things gonna be back again to its natural environment and still continue your quality backlinks.

  • I was looking at broad searches for this term. As I said, this will one day be an authority site (at least that is my goal) so I will have 100's of pages targeting related keywords like "short hairstyles" "curly hairstyles" "hair products" etc. I will not be optimizing for one keyword. Does that make sense or am I completely missing the boat and wasting my time:confused:
