Search question?

I've just been doing a few searches to see how my site pops up.
I did a 'keyword search' on my PC & I popped up on page two.
I then did the same search on my lap top & popped up on page three.
I then did another search using more keywords & came in on page one on my PC & on the lap top. However on the lap-top the page position was lower?
Surely a position is a position & not dependant on which computer you use........... or am I missing something?:confused:
