SEO Hosting - How Important Are Unique Nameserver IP's?

I need to get this nailed down...

Many seo hosting services (for example seohosting.com) offer packages with x number of unique C-class IP's. Let's say you purchase a 20 IP package. You can use two of those IP's to create custom nameservers. Then, you would have 18 left to assign to sites.

All well and good so far, but all 18 sites will have nameservers pointing to the same two IP's. Some say that this defeats the purpose of seo hosting and makes it easy to detect.

What is the deal on this?

If you are not doing anything nefarious, there is no reason not to use the
same IP, whatever class you choose, and link them together.

Illogical to think google penalizes sites that link together, in fact, many large
ones do it, and more illogical to think google gives some boost.

No reason to hide anything, or spread it around. Except for not putting all
eggs in one hosting basket. Hosting companies might go down or be
banned entirely by google. Has nothing to do with anything else. So, you
get multiple class c from some clown hosting that gets banned. Then what?

There is no reason to not use a normal host to host normal websites, and
link 'em all. Why this is such a big secret, I have no idea.

Right now, the WF is full of all sorts of people wanting to somehow hide
behind or get a boost from IPs. Crazy.

If that's the case, don't publish anything on wikipedia, squidoo, ezinearticles,
warriorforum, blogger, free wordpress, hub, digitalpoint, etc., because they are all
on shared hosting, with a multiple sites, linked, and all servers from a to c.
    Maybe even d now.
