Are there other factors we should focus on in order to rank in these other search engines, or should all the same variables that work for Google apply the same?

  • I believe the algorithms of google and other search engines are different, that is because I have sites that are ranked and ranked well in google but I can't find them in yahoo.

    Any ideas?
  • it works with all search engine all you need to do is to build a good content so they can crawl.

    • Yes they have different algorithms, but the steps for making your site rank are similar: link building and on-page optimization.

There are slight differences, like for Yahoo/Bing it seems to be a bit more important the on-page optimization, and that Google doesn't count the nofollow links as important as the dofollow.

  • if you do well in google the better and high chance of getting good results in other SE's
  • Well, ofcourse you should focus on that too, but keep your main priority google. Because according to a research 82% of the SE traffic flows from google!

    • Optimization are done in similar way as that of google to rank in bing, yahoo and msn. Bing and yahoo algorithm are slightly different. Yahoo gives more priority to on-page optimization. Any way, lot of traffic come from google. So, if your site is well ranked in google then not worry about ranking in bing, yahoo and msn.
  • All search engine's need to do is to build a good content so they can crawl the site...
  • In my experience i would rank up for google search engine, by updating its algorithm it is more accurate compared to other search engine like yahoo. Most of the SEO's usually use google to rank up their sites because of the effectiveness.
  • Like everyone mentions, stick to great on-page SEO and good backlink building practices. I usually find that I rank a lot faster for specific keywords in Yahoo and Bing before ranking in Google. Either way, I still get traffic from these two search engines in addition to Google.

As long as your sticking to good SEO practices and take the time to apply them, you'll slowly grab rankings in both Google and Yahoo/Bing.
  • Every search engine want Back link and Article submission on quality sites....... and both are have different algorithm and formulas....
  • what is wrong with the title of this thread?
  • well every search engine have a different algorithm but they all love quality links and good content.
  • They use different algorithms to rank the pages, but you need to focus on Pareto's principle
"80% of your traffic comes from 20% of the sources" furthermore I am sure that the 20% we are talking about is Google, then just focus on the big G and the rest will follow.
