Malware on site - What do I do?

hey guys

I had a site ranking number 1 then one day it was knocked back to page 2 at the very top. I have building backlinks galore but it won't seem to budge.

Anyway only recently I noticed that when I load my site from any computer it warns me against me doing so telling me my site isn't safe. What could cause this? Could I have been knocked down in rankings because of this?

What do I do :-(?

It could be a couple of factors. Are you guys running joomla or wordpress? Take a look at your home page, and then view source from your browser. Notice anything "strange"? You may have been the victims of a sql injection (or a good ole hack) and thus are serving up spampages unknowningly.

Go ahead and rectify that situation (remove the code or pages) and then resubmit your page to google and inform them of this.

    1. You have been hacked and malware inserted
    2. Find it all and remove it
    3. Verify site at Google
    4. Use the request review link (NOT the reconsideration one)
    5. If the warning is not removed in 12-24hrs, then go back to (1)

If after several iterations of the above:
    6. Pay for a professional to clean the site; or
    7. Post asking for help at: Malware & hacked sites - Webmaster Central Help a couple of the contributer there are like hound dogs in the way they sniff out the problem.

    Then
    8. Put things in place to make sure it does not happen again

clean your computer out - then go to your hosting account and change all your passwords - backup your database - delete all your files and folders in your directory and do a clean install.

If that doesnt work do a clean install of your operating system and if that doesnt work get a new computer

I once had a similar issue and then I figured out what had caused the problem. There are some Trojans that attack computers and then only the HTML files which are to be uploaded via FTP tools would be affected. In my case there were some iFrame advertisements added to my pages footers and then I scanned my computer, deleted the problems and edited my pages before uploading decently.
