You are too right Rob, so many marketers just dont take the time to do it right.

I wrote a small piece and put it on about.com linking to my newly published article. Less than 24 hours later that article made it onto the most viewed list at EZA in it's category. Not rocket science ay !

Now there is something like 9,000 incoming links to my article from all the other articles in it's category and it is on page 1 of Google for it's keyword because of all those links.

It just involves taking the time to doing your marketing properly instead of tearing round the net publishing like a madman.

thing is most people are after backlinks when it comes to publishing content. this generally means the content is not really worth reading and only exists to create a backlink. this DOES positively impact search rankings and if that's the end goal, it's probably the most efficient way of going about it!

whether that method should be strictly classed as marketing is another matter...

Ethical is the only way to go now as the big G are cleaning things up real fast at the moment.

Nice post, indeed. I'm still shocked at some of the foolish things I did early on in IM...and I'm even more shocked to see some early articles still producing. You can make some mistakes & still make a buck, and I think that's the greatest thing about IM. Then again, the key is learning from those mistakes & then putting your "aha" moments into action. It's a good reminder that there are some inventive & better ways to do things, and in time, we all find a way!

how about posting a snippet of your article to web.2o after it's been approved , then social bookmark it, grab the rss feeds of that socialbookmarked article and submit it to rss feed aggregators, then ping.... my site has remained in google 1st page , top#3 for many months now doing this technique ( best of all, the steps mentioned above were mostly done by automation).

Now take his advice and kick it up a few notches.

How many sites have you posted to that provides you with an RSS feed?
Take those feeds and submit them to the rss feed aggregators.

Turn your articles into audio and submit them to the podcasting sites.

You will create more backlinks and traffic.

Two things;
1. It seems that you have to apply to be a contributing writer to post at About.com. Am i missing something?
2. After reading recent posts at yahoo answers the majority seem to be coming from school age kids/ teens. When I did a search for topics on business, marketing many of these questions were a couple years old. This is to build back links and high search ranking not neccessarily help or target the question askers right?

You need to join so you can comment. When you leave a comment or reply you can add anchor text in your reply.

You should apply for a contributing author account. They dont take long to get approved.

They will not become active until your account reaches a certain number of answers. However what we are after here is the traffic. If your answer is good they will visit.

Keep doing this for a week to all of your articles and you will soon see a decent spike in traffic.

Another great traffic source if craigslist forums. No one even knows about this feature, everyone is spamming the main craigslist classifids left and right while the forums is wide open and far less heavily moderated.

Craigslist forums are visible from everywhere, all cities, so unlike the classifieds you don't have to post it in every city to get visibility. You can post clickable links once your account is 7 days old. Craigslist froums is awesome and you don't get banned and get your stuff deleted unless you blatantly spam.

It's great you're pointing out the real key to getting that traffic to convert (and consequently make money). Driving traffic to your articles is great, but if your articles suck then that work would have been all for nothing!

You have some great articles there, and I'm sure you're experiencing pretty high click-through rates, so between the massive traffic and the great articles I'm sure you're getting pretty awesome conversion rates!

Thanks Paul, click thru rate is currently around 33% and yes good articles really do help but when you get mass republished the backlinks that your article picks up give enough link juice to send your money site to the top of the serps anyway.

A good article simply gives you more qualified visitors.

I have articles that have had more than 200,000 views so yes they were worth working on instead of trying to "Pump Out The Articles".

Less work too

I have articles pulling this many page views also...

Better content will deliver better traffic for the life of the website where the article is posted...

No, not at all. You can link to whatever but just be careful that what you are linking to is not too self promotional. (like most of our moneysites are)

Because articles, especially ezine articles, do not allow self promotion in the content body they are perfect for submissions like these where new posts are heavily moderated. If your blog or blog page you are linking to is not too "sales like" then go for it.

The main point of this post is this folks....

Your EZA comes from a PR6 site and when you give your EZA articles PR5 and 6 backlinks a strange little phenomenon happens. It seems to give them a lot of potency, more than normal. I have only ever come to the conclusion that all sites involved (apart from your own) are big authority sites. 2 or 3 of these little hand grenades are all that is needed sometimes for a first place spot in the Big G.

Also, before you submit at About.com find relevant post to comment on by flicking through them and finding some that have a high PR.

I have commented on many pages/articles at about.com that have had a PR of 6.

They are out there....

Once again great content and discussion. I just checked out about.com but the guidelines for writing a review say you can't include a url or html so how are you creating the text link? Do they not adhere to the guidelines if you give them good content?

I think this just smacks in the face those people who say that they do not want to link to their articles on someone else's website, giving some stranger traffic to their articles...

In my opinion, if the article is great to begin with, it does not matter where people find your articles... If the content works, your website will get traffic when your article gets traffic...

A less than idea article on your own website that fails to convert is the same as an article on someone else's website that fails to convert a reader into a buyer... LOL

Dont know how it's not relative. The article discusses the hardships of finding a local job, suggests online work as an alternative and points them to this little site that provides online work/job opportunities in the form of survey and GPT work. It does not cost anything to the end user either.

That is why it converts so damn well :-)

I checked out the backlinks of these articles in Site Explorer but could not see any backlinks from 'yahoo answers' or 'about'. Is there any other trick you use to generate traffic that you havent told us about?

Really enjoyed this. I have started gaining alot of built up articles I have been writing but dont have the time (or to be honest...skill) to put it on multiple websites....so i dont know if there is really a point of posting some, but what do you think?

You are always better off doing it right the first time.

I have articles that have had more than 200,000 views so yes they were worth working on instead of trying to "Pump Out The Articles".

I've been posting to about.com for a while and it does generate moderate traffic if done right. Another excellent trick to get lots of backlinks is to print out your site's url and then go to your local Walmart and put them on windshields. Just kidding, but maybe it would be worth a laugh for someone to try.

Thanks John, yes there is a lot to be said for doing things properly. It is quite sad the path that internet marketing has gone down. So many new methods hit the marketplace everyday but nobody really concentrates on the core traffic machines.

I guess many marketers are still searching for that silver bullet eh....

Thanks for sharing... I used to use the yahoo answers for my business, before I had a blog. I would answer questions and hope that people would ask me for more information. I did get some people to bite, but I knew I needed to make it more accessible, I will try this.

Hi Todd, no I dont outsource any backlinking or linkbuilding anymore. About a year ago I learnt how to make your ezine go viral everytime, even if it is the most boring article ever and I now do this for other warriors as a service.

I can now aquire 5,000+ highly potent links to my new article in under 72 hours so no need to worry about any other link building apart from the usual bookmark n ping.

Article writing is really about working smarter not harder.

Find a subject relating to your niche
Put up a VERY CATCHY post in that section with a text link to your articles url (your keyword) in your post. The better your article is the more clicks you will get as it can get voted up. Great for getting noticed.

The better the quality of your posts and answers the better you will do with this. Too many people go running in and spam these places openly. If you treat them nice they can send you a mountain of traffic.

I may be dumb as a mud fence, but I still don't see any sign up link on the main page of About.com. Is it further inside, or do I have to select a topic first?

Thanks for the great tips. Be careful about Yahoo answers, though. It's really easy to get banned. I used to use that about 3 years ago. I had 26 answers and 1/2 of those had been picked as best answers. All of them didn't have links in them, and the ones that did were pointing to sites that had high quality info on the subject in question. Still, however, down came the hammer. No Yahoo Answers for you!

Hopefully for all of you not under the ban, the 2nd page technique will help.

Hi Sam, mate, do it to all of them.

Here is a very powerful little "Content Cluster" technique I use and it works awesome.

Set up 2 web 2.0 sites (squidoo,hubpages,blogger etc)

Bookmark them 5-10 times each with a different description for each one (like real book marking would occur)

Then point an EZA at each and put links from answers and about to the articles AND the 2.0 sites.

leave for 3-4 weeks then link the 2 x 2.0 sites to 2 different pages on your site and watch that site take a good boost in the serps.

Especially if that article gets MASS PUBLISHED ;-)

Also all content for articles and 2.0 sites MUST BE HANDWRITTEN !!!

I cannot emphasize that enough people, it is that which makes this work so well, google goes Mmmmmm look at all these lovely connected morsels of fresh and COMPLETELY ORIGINAL content Mmmmmmm and you will get all the google lovin you need. It is that simple, i have done this time and time again so I not telling you to do anything I have not done many times myself.

I recommend articles to be 400+ words and web 2.0 sites to be 500+

Put the time in to do this right and you will see i am 150% right on the money.

The number of backlinks to my site was reduced to about 75% as stated by Yahoo explorer.. This happened after I use your IMT Website Submitter..

Is this normal? Or was this just caused by Yahoo tweaking and testing their SE algorithm?

I'm afraid this might have been caused by the sudden spike of backlinks to my site due to the submitter tool. I don't know, I'm not sure yet..

I have to say... very interesting post, now lets see if I can make it work.

Have applied to be a contributing writer as I do not see anything on the upper right hand side at about.com. It seems like a job though... lol.. what are you trying to get me into ;-)

The articles you did on Buzzle are definitely eye catchers. Where did you find the offers to get paid from people doing surveys? I am still new in case you want to call me out on it... yeah only two months in.

  I was just wondering, how many yahoo answers/about.com posts do you suggest making to get into the most published/viewed list on ezine, or top 10 in google?
  
  Is there a general rule of thumb you wouldn't mind sharing? Like how tough of a keyword you can rank for using these methods?
  
  Also, how are you actually finding the high PR articles on about.com, what I'm doing is simply going to about.com, clicking on browse our channels, and then picking an article from the subtopics, but nowhere do I see the PR of the article.
  
  Of course I will be testing these methods and eventually will find out on my own, but a "best practices" type of thing would be great.

The above mentioned two tricks are awesome in getting the traffic to the article. Thanks for the useful information. But I think there are more number of ways in getting the traffic to the website by getting back links, submission of the articles, social bookmarking, etc.,

It works like this...

You can leave a link from day 1, however it is not live. This does not matter as we are also after extra views to boost traffic to our article anyway. They just have to type it in. If you give a good answer and leave a link to further information you WILL get clicks. I answered a weight loss question once and got more than 50 visits a day from it for weeks.

Once you reach level 2 ALL of your links become live and the link juice will flow on to your articles. So get busy answering, like most other marketing techniques, you need to do it a few times for it to be effective.

I recommend answering 5 per day as if you do this 5 days a week in 1 month you will have 100 links pointing to your articles from a big authority site.

well but do the links really count? Because I heard that links form the same IP will only count once. So while all the answers have the same IP there could be a problem when you are going for backlinks so improve your ranking in SERPs.
Am I wrong?

There is this software called "article submit pro", you can search in google. It has more than 100 article sites, and u can add as much u want. You can just write your article and copy paste to the program and with just a few clicks you're article will be displayed to as many article sites u want.
