Any idea why I dropped off Google?

Hi

I used to have around 50-60 visits a day to my site, but in the lastweek this has drastically dropped to just 1-2 a day! Plus my google rankings have disappeared completely!

Any ideas why this would happen? There haven't been any major changes to my site, just the usual product description updates which happen on a weekly basis.

Hi.. It may be due to lack of new contents to your site. Search engines crawl where there is fresh and original contents with the same keywords. Other sites who are similar to your's may have been updating their sites very regularly with powerful keywords. This may be one of the reasons which I think.

    Best Wishes

Really? How come I have several old sites I have not touched in years all ranking at or near the top for their main keywords. Care to explain that?

Well, actually what goes within Google no one has any idea! If I was a Google Expert Then for sure I would have given the exact solution. I have also mentioned "Maybe".

What's your competition up to? i've had this happen to me when I had a new comer moving up in the rankings....my site danced around for a bit...dissappeared completly then came back one week later to the same spot..

It was a site that I wasn't do much on at that time but was watching it to see what it was up too.

Since then nothing else has really happened...same spot....several months now....the competition didn't last long...I'm guessing they were using some black hat techniques and they faded as fast as they occured.

    CBpayne,

Sorry to hear about your websites. It has happened to all of us who have been in this industry long enough. Do not lose hope! Keep up your link building and use effective anchor text for your keywords. Just see this as a good time to get your website in order and double your efforts of link building.

It is a definite downer when this happens, but is not permanent. It happened to my site where it dropped from the 2nd page to the 10th. Now I am #1 for this keyword!

Don't let the Google dance get you down. Just keep plugging away and you'll climb back.

It happened to me a few months ago with a few of my sites. The sites were in the top 10 on Google for the keywords I was targeting, and then they disappeared from the top and were buried somewhere where nobody would ever find them. They'd go back to the top and then disappear again over the period of weeks or months. They seem to be settled now in the top 10. So I assume it's just the Google dance that I hear about. Your situation may just be temporary also.

This happens to almost everybody. The only thing you can do is add good content regularly and send relevant backlinks more often than usual. Oh...and stop trying to understand Google ;p

Definitely don't try to understand google lol! This "google dance" you see mentioned is likely what happened in your case. Given that I don't know your URL and it's history, hard to say, but if it was a relatively new site, you might see a temporary BOOST at first, then a HARD HIT way below where you'd think you should be, then a jump again to where you ought to be. During this time, steady back-linking and good quality content on your pages (as others have mentioned). You'll end up where you were, or higher we hope I'll cross my fingers for you.

Thanks for all of your help. It's re-assuring to know it's not just happening to me. The site has been running since April, so is relatively new but I've spent almost every waking hour possible on it (working the day job 9-6pm then working on the site 8-12 every night, gets exhausting!), recently I've ramped up the link building activity and will keep this going.

Fingers crossed I'll crawl my way back to 50+ visits a day!

      Hi all

I've just noticed something in my webmaster acount today, the highest number of links into my site (www example com) are coming from my own site (example com) but without www

Will this mean my site has been listed twice on google, and would that mean Google is picking up my site twice and sees the content as being duplicated? Which is why I've dropped off google? Does anyone know how I get removed or direct it so only (www example com) shows?

      N
