Best SEO Book

Hi everyone. I am tired of thinking of SEO as this "mystery science" which results in me having to pay others increase my sites SERPS. I want to learn everything there is about SEO. I've been to Seomoz.org and while its a great resource, I kind of want to start from scratch with a book so I know I know everything there is to know. After I read a book, I will go back to Seomoz.org to take it to the next level and also reinforce what I already learned. I was looking online and I couldn't find a definitive book.

I know SEO methods and strategies are changing rapidly as the search engines change how they rank. Therefore many books are outdated quickly.

Can anyone recommend some good SEO books for me?

Thank you.

  • For starters, read the FAQ stickied in this form.
It's gold I tell you, GOLD!!!

    • The Adsense/PPC/SEO Discussion forum is pretty much my favorite section of the Warrior Forum, sometimes being the only section I peruse, and I don't think I've ever looked at that sticky up at the top! Thanks for pointing it out Orvn.
  • Thanks. I have read the forum FAQ but I want something in the form of a book that has a definite starting point and a definite ending point so I know I have covered everything there is to know about SEO.
  • It is not possible to define start and finish lines of SEO, SEO is smallest word with thousands of strategies. You need to define your by your own efforts.
  • Are those thousands of strategies based on a combination of the items listed in the SEO FAQs of this forum? I am trying to figure out why some people are getting paid thousands of dollars to do SEO and why the process is shrouded in mystery. Some people in forums promise 1st page results in Google for whatever keywords you want. I want to learn how to do that. Can that be learned from SEO Faqs and sites like Seomoz?
  • Brad Callen has a great ecourse about seo right now. Just Google his name.

He got me started online 4 years ago. I can vouch for his knowledge. I have learned a lot from him and took action on what he has said and it works.

    • Thanks Jonathan. I've heard of Brad Callen. I think I've bought one of his products a while back (PPC Spy).
  • I think you should read the blogs which are updated very fast..

    • I am reading blogs but I'm the kind of person that needs to know an official starting point with an outline to match. This way I know I've covered all bases. If I read blogs, I feel like I am missing something vital to becoming good at SEO.
  • SEO: The Free Beginner’s Guide From SEOmoz

that is very usefull for starters
  • search engine bible is best ever seo book.
  • This is for the beginners, made by google itself: http://www.google.com/webmasters/doc...rter-guide.pdf
  • Trafficguru, I have just completed a course by a fellow warrior John S. Rhodes called Juggernaut SEO and I just want to tell you that this is the best damn resource for anyone wanting to learn SEO bar none! It is both strategies and tactics.

The guy covers everything related to SEO, and in such a way that what you get out of it will serve you for years to come. No gimmicks, tricks or tactics that will have you "google-slapped" or result in wasted efforts. Just solid, top notch information delivered by a highly successful individual and a highly regarded teacher.

You'll notice that I'm promoting the course in my sig and I only do that because it has been such an incredible learning experience for me. Do yourself a favour and look up John S. Rhodes and in particular the Juggernaut SEO.

If you choose to do so via my affiliate link I will of course be greatful, but that is not the purpose of this post as I simply wanted to bring to your attention what I believe to be the best course on SEO.

  • I am looking at trying to learn more about SEO and would be grateful if anyone has read Jerry West's "The Google Search Engine Best Practices Guide" or Planet Ocean's "The Unfair Advantage, Winning the Search Engine Wars" and which they consider the best.

    • Planet Ocean is very good. I am a member and receive an update every month. If you want to learn SEO it is one of the best sources out there.

Also, IWA, International Webmasters Association, has a course on SEO that is very good too. I have taken this course and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a hands on learning experience with SEO.

      Hope this helps
