How Social Search Will Transform the SEO Industry

Would love to hear some opinions.

  • SEO is a moving target. When someone searches for a video at Youtube I think of that as social search.

The search engines strive to produce relevant results, that is their main product, if they don't, nobody comes there to click the ads.

Facebook liking and posting links to Twitter certainly indicate interest which is a subset of relevance. To whatever degree the search engines can quantify actions into an indication of relevance they will at minimum examine it and if it is a reliable indicator they will use it.

This is why links are so important. So far they continue to be so. Reciprocal linking was the main method once and now is diminished in importance because the SE's realized it was too easily manufactured. The evolution continues. Like rust, SEO never sleeps.

The best way to see what changing is to track and test. Your own site, sites like yours too. Some people test and track a lot so it is good to check out their blogs. Jerry West said once he has 580 websites he uses to test SEO.

Alltop - Top SEO (Search Engine Optimization) News is a good place to keep an eye on those devious SEO geeks and another one I enjoy is SEO Dojo SEO Geeks Newsletter the newsletter page there has an audio player that plays a weekly chat held by people who live, eat, and drink SEO.

    • Great reply and thanks for the resources. I agree these liking and linking to twitter are a subset to relevance so much that they will eventually change the algorithm.
  • Interesting question.

I'd wait and see what "Google ME" is and how it integrates with search before i comment.

    • I certainly agree that we are business people and need to be flexible. I'm not in remorse here about the changes I see.

Quite the opposite I think this will make finding a niche that much easier.

But that could also increase competition so agreeing with you again we better look for the opportunities presented and act.

    • I have seen a video of Matt Cutts on you tube some one ask him that what is the future of SEO? 37 people dislike and only 3 people liked that question but he answered the question. SEO is like a resume writing services the write high light your points which attract the recruiters. similar is the SEO is highlight the website content in such a manner in which search engine likes like Optimized Title description heading and content and Good back links which vote for your website. I also thing like that SEO will exist if website exit on the World Wide Web.
  • Google Me would be worth seeing before people make predictions on where SEO will go in the future. I do believe SEO will be more "Social Network" friendly in the near future.
  • Now a days, it becomes trends and there is big competition between the business arrivals to up their site in Search Engine. If Competition is there then there are lot of scope and future is bright.

    • FB and bing was a lame coupling. It's not a merger.

Yahoo and Bing have failed miserably, even giving more to google.

Google's instant was a huge success.

Now we hear AOL wants to buy yahoo. But guess what? AOL
partners with google. So....the beat goes on.

Many articles have been written lately on the success of tweets
vs. facebook posts. Twitter wins out, hands down.

  • That would be great if it happens. Bing will automatically index sites on facebook.
