Submitting to Directories

I submitted my website to a bunch of directories with Directory Maximizer but don't seem to be getting any links. I had to give them my website and I thought that would make the backlink but did not create it with anchor text? I did not add any anchor text at all! If I needed to put anchor text where should it have been?

  • Usually directories are for listing a title not anchor text.

  • Many think that by slamming a bunch of directories the backlinks will come pouring in. It doesn't work like that. The truth is, unless it's dmoz, yahoo, bing, or google directory it's pretty much a waste of time.

  • I disagree that it's a waste of time if the directories have some pagerank. Yes, dmoz, yahoo, etc are the ones you want ideally but there are still plenty of others that have some value. Getting accepted into decent directories can take a long time (months and months) so its not like the backlinks would show up overnight. If you submit to say, 200 directories its not uncommon to only get about 30-40 solid links out of that and even those will take time to show up.

  • Agreed. I see a lot of value in directories as well. There's many different sources for back links that might be easier, but some directories do actually get used (nowhere NEAR as frequently as a SE), but still... I've seen some referrals from the directories, but a lot of effort for the payoff. I don't think too much time should be taken for directory links, but they are nice if they rank well. Plus, you just submit your site and wait, instead of having to write articles. I'm not affiliated with the site, but LinkPartners.com - Sites that swap and exchange reciprocal links has been a pretty fun way to swap links if you also like link exchange.

  • There is a tool that helps you do that, it's from the imtalk.org guys, check it out, the developer posted a thread here too.
  • Your title is anchor text in most cases of the directory listing, so you want your title to contain your main keywords, but sometimes it is your domain name and thats why it is important that you choose your domain name around your main keyword.

BTW you can use our dir submitter while it is still free.
  • Directories review free listed links within months and you should wait something between 1-3 months that they review your link and if they find your link useful, they will approve it.
Its one of the reasons that most webmasters ignore directory submission.
  • I think directory submission is one of the best method in SEO. May be it is time consuming but Once you will get approved then you could get huge benefit from it. You can get good SERP, PR and traffic. Try to Submit unique information while doing directory submissions.
  • Hi

Nice application tool, I have noticed that some directories ask for reciprocal links or to buy links before submission, how does this tool deal with that?
