Elementary Question Please!

Hi guys!
I cant seem to find the answer to a newbie question. Will someone explain to me how the PPC game is played and why? I thought the way to get the traffic to ones site is to get optimized and get on the first page of google. If one does the PPC game then does he get the traffic instead of the optimized site? I feel silly but i really dont know...:confused: Thanks!!!

  • PPC involves paying (per click ) to get traffic to your website.

    That's completely different to ensuring that your site is well optimized.

    You might be getting confused since SEO can bring traffic to your site (good SEO -> good SERPs -> traffic), although you needn't be confused since PPC and SEO are pretty unrelated.

    SEO is (kind of) a way to get traffic organically via the SERPs, whilst PPC is advertising. Hence they are pretty different and they certainly don't cancel each-other out

    • OK then, where do the PPC companies find their customers to send to your site? Do the customers come from search engines? Im trying to grasp the actual process. If you can point me to some reading that breaks it down for me i'd appreciate that. Thanks
