There is a brand that spells with & in the middle instead of "and" i.e Black & Decker.
Should i write "Black & Decker" when writing content or "Black And Decker"?

  • I was worried about this once. I think that the major search engines such as G are smart enough to treat them as pretty well the same in searches. It might also be a good idea to use something like adwords keyword tool to see what people are using most, and use that.

since it is a brand thing it might be best to use &. I find myself using & a lot instead of and in blog posts etc.

    • It is better to use "&" so as not to distort the keyword.

However, it is advisable to preview your content before sending through any software tool or submission service as "&" is sometimes distorted to "amp" and this changes the whole meaning.

  • Use it however the company you are talking about uses it (and has it trademarked)... For exampel, AT and T would look... well stupid. They are AT&T. People will expect it the way the Black & Decker uses it... Otherwise, you're going to look like you don't know what your talking about.
  • Wow,,never thought of there is so much knowledge in the details, it is so good to read this because I only noticed that the 'and' directly be changed into '&' when I write code for pages, there are still lot of ways to go in SEO...
  • Black & Decker's domain is blackanddecker.com, simply because the & symbol
can't be. So, it works for them to leave it off.

Since & is a symbol, really, how can it be a keyword, logically speaking.

Besides, there is absolutely nothing that google or anyone else is going
to think of when using the words black decker, except black and decker,
    okay, black & decker.

    The point is moot.

Taking this further, doing a search for black & decker parts,
which google instant gives, the first sites listed below the official
sites are sites with a title, black and decker. Obviously, they don't
use the & and they are quite high.

    • It can be as in this case, a conjunction within a keyword phrase and so forms part of that keyword/keyword phrase
  • It is a question of being consistent with whatever you use.

If you have always inserted "&" within your keyword phrase and have backlinked consistently to the keyword phrase, then obviously you should continue with that.
And if same applies to "and", then continue with it.

Also, if you just want to start optimizing for the keyword phrase with "&" inserted somewhere in between, then you should do keyword research to identify that that keyword phrase has many searches and few competition otherwise you go for the same keyword phrase but with "and" somewhere in between if it has more searches and less competition.
  • I suggest you to use "&" to prevent facing problem is the future. So in my opinion its better that you write it "Black & Decker".
  • Well I think we have to use the words according to the characters. We cannot exceed 70 characters in Title, if we are optimizing it for the Google. So if you use & it will be counted as one character and if you use and it will be counted as 3. So its better to use & as it will give a scope to add another keyword. There is one thing that it can affect the searches.

  • Some words and signs are not given much importance by Google like, the, and, free, &, ,, etc. So avoid these.
