When submitting to an article directory or blog that allows more than one anchor text in the article is it better to target multiple pages on my site or just concentrate all links to one page? Like if i have three potential links overall, is it better to concentrate all links to one page on my site or have three separate links to different pages?

You want to link as many pages as you can so that people can see deeper in to your site. This will also make it easier for Google to index your sites pages

I also link to internal pages in my site. One link goes to my main domain and then any others go to "deeper" pages. I also vary my anchor text as well.

Main keyword and one inner page, get used to doing that regularly and you'll start to see some positive results. Just make sure you use a few various anchor texts so it looks natural. For that, just go to the Google Wonder Wheel tool or use the 'related searches' option to figure it out.

    Best of luck

I got this from a really high level SEO guy:
Do NOT vary anchor text as it will diminish and delay your climb to the top.
If you you can't help yourself at least include the exact keyword phrase WITHIN all your anchor text variations.

    cheap golf clubs
    used golf clubs
    golf clubs in Texas

And for sure only 1 page per article.

      .

Hmmm not sure I agree with this statement. Think about it, Google want you to have as many natural anchor links as possible right? Now if you've got a high percentage of your backlinks coming in from a single anchor text phrase then don't you think that would look unnatural and spammy?

I do agree with the latter part but do use variations of exact and also some common sense, by doing this I've seen an increase in SERPS. Just my observations!

If the keyword you are trying to optimize for ranking higher in search engines is too competitive, its better to link to only one page with different similar anchor texts. But if the keyword is medium competitive, linking to more pages is better than linking to only one page.

Don't include more than 2 otherwise it would harm you.

So, there is no real consensus about which is better: more diversified links pointing to different pages or the same link x number of times?

I didnt even think about using the same keyword as my anchor text for all my links. Does anyone else know the significance of this? I know it probably cant hurt, but does it help at all?

Since comments are not definitive, I will be trying a mix of two links per article. The first being where both links are the same pointing to one page, then the second being two different links to two separate pages. I am aiming these at medium competition keywords, so Ill just assume the page that ranks or rises the fastest will be the winning bet.
