I have 5 new websites (hosted on the same server) and 5 old websites (hosted on different servers). Each one of those 5 old websites are pointing to all new websites (on the same page). Is this a link farm? If it is, what to do? Is it the good idea to remove those backlinks from old websites?

nah companies point to their partners and sister companies all the time. If you are nervous make sure your domain name has privacy guard but I really don't see it being much of a problem

As long as domain privacy is on, I wouldn't worry about it.

    I wouldn't classify it as...

I wouldn't call that a link farm, maybe a link patch.

The thing with domain privacy though, surely it only keeps the details private from the general public? I would think that the registrar companies (of which I think Google is one) can still find out who owns what sites if they wanted to.

Thanks for your replies. I just though that I'm doing something wrong because my sites have dropped in Google SERPS.

Link Farm is the process of exchanging reciprocal links with Web sites in order to increase search engine optimization. The idea behind link farming is to increase the number of sites that link to yours because search engines such as Google rank sites according to, among other things, the quality and quantity of sites that link to yours.

In theory, the more sites that link to yours, the higher your ranking in the search engine results will be because the more links indicate a higher level of popularity among users of the Internet. However, search engines such as Google consider link farming as a form of spam and have been implementing procedures to banish sites that participate in link farming, so the term link farming has garnered negative connotations across the Internet.

Google and other search engines don't like sites that try to artificially increase the PageRank of sites by adding lots of links. These are called link farms, and linking to one can lower your own PageRank score. But how can you tell if it is a link farm?

The best way to tell if a site is considered a link farm by Google is to find out it's PageRank. And the best way to do that is to install the Google toolbar in your browser (for IE and Firefox). Then surf to the page in question. Since PageRank is a Google technology, it's best to ask the source what they think.

In your case, if you are using link farms to artificially inflate your PageRank, you could end up a creek without a paddle. Google has policies specifically set in place for such methods that utilize link farms to increase PageRank! Furthermore, you should clearly avoid sites offering link services that automatically setup link exchanges. You will find that most of these links are hidden by the means of CSS, that are only visible to search engines and not people. However, because search engines can't render CSS, the hidden links are added to your link popularity. Furthermore, your PageRank will actually increase, but are you willing to pay the price if you get caught?

Google, won't penalize you for having a link in a link farm. It would be unfair if website owners were penalized on this basis, because you have no control who's linking to you. Right? It would also be disturbing if your competitors could add your site to a link farm and destroy you! Therefore, Google won't penalize you, unless you are caught red handed using link farms to gain link popularity.

Google, can penalize you if your site contains links to link farms, and/or if your site contains hidden links. The truth is, you can actually be penalized for adding links from sites that are in bad neighborhoods on your web site.

If you want that your 5old websites should point to new one than you can redirect them to new websites.
