Hi if the dot com version of my keyword (as in mykeyword.com) is not available, what is the next best TLD to look at?
Thanks for any comments.

    .net .org or .info

It doesn't make any difference which but .info are really cheap to register at GoDaddy.

I prefer .com domains, so I usually find something else doesn't necessary have to contain my keyword.

.com .org and .net are exactly the same in the eyes of google. However .com sites are easy to remember for human visitors.

If for example you cannot find dogtraining.com available, try to add "site", "Info", "review" or some variants of those in the end to get a .com name. So you will have dogtrainingsite.com.

Keeping aware that you want your main keyword in the front.

if the .com is parked or not used ask how much......then depending on the keyword the .org may be a better fir then the net....also you cann buy both and forward one to the other to not lose any other traffic.

The .com .org .net .info are the same when google crawls them the only thing that can only differentiate is the content. I would prefer .com for its easy to familiarize by the guest.

        .com

        Then .org

        Then .net

        In that order.

I honestly wouldn't bother with .info's or any other TLDs than the above for domains you want to rank (as apposed to feeder sites).

Had you asked me that a year ago, I would have ranked them .com, .net then .org and that had been the case for a looooong time. But... something shifted last year and .org began to get slightly favored over .net and that bias has seemed to stabilize and set in.

        * this was mined data from Google and I can't say whether the same holds true for Yahoo! or Bing as I didn't scrape them.

          Here we go again...

          Google the bold keywords...

This does beg the question, have you ever searched for info on Noam Chomsky? How about regular expressions, roman coins, craft ideas, or how to check your page rank? Maybe you've never needed to do some research to find out if New York was a sanctuary city or to find out something about New York transit. Oh, and have you thought about moving your money to a local bank before you go shopping on Black Friday?

And let's not forget that website pages are ranked, not domains.

I think .net and .org are the best choice. But if you’re going to target a certain country like Canada then you can consider .ca.
