I see a lot of WSOs and many claim to say that with XYZ method(s) you can get top rankings within...

3 days...
2 days...
1 day...
12 hours...

Now, I don't know about you, I'm not comfortable with such claims. Yes, it may be possible but I'm looking at long-term. Are you sure that after it get the top spot the ranking will stay there for the next 3-6 months?

You see, I'm one of those SEO guys who believes in slow and steady rankings...

You are absolutely right "Joseph", they may bring on top within a 2-3 days but they did not guarantee it that it will be there for longer time.

What I think is, ether they are caught up in "Google dance", or using some dirty blackhat method. I never bothered to read posts from people with such claims, if it would be so easy to rank #1 in 1 day, everyone would be overnight millionaires...

I believe that there is some truth to their ranking claims and how fast they can rank. I can do that to my site. However, it greatly depends on a lot of factors like the number competition, the strenght of competition and so on.

But whatever strategies you used to get you rank will not guarantee to stay your ranking for the next 3-6 months. Treat ranking as a no-end-game competition where search engine at anytime can change the rule of the game.

I'm focusing on long term success as well.. But they need to do something to catch your attention and sometimes it is wild, fast and easy number 1 positions, that does the trick...

It is possible to rank for a keyword as soon as you're indexed for long tail keywords; however, if you're trying to rank for a competitive keyword, it's just not going to happen over night. Competition is a huge factor. If very few people are actually targeting a keyword, you will not have to do much work to stay at the top; however, the generally rule of thumb is that if a keyword can make someone money, chances are the more it can, the more competitive it will be to rank.

See, the problem is most internet marketers believe they are in a vacuum. You know there are other people doing the exact same thing.

Especially for competitive keywords, you will have to constantly be at your toes to keep a top stop. That is why they are called "Competitive" keywords...

If I get a good ranking within a few days of bringing up a website, I expect that ranking to be gone and have me in a more realistic position within a week. A most keywords have at least one or two websites that have been working hard to get their positions, it's not common to suddenly rank for a keyword, get a #1 position, and keep that spot. Not to say it hasn't happened, it's just not common.
