Is this the Google Dance or the Sandbox?

I have a site that spent a long time on page 2 in Google and I had very recently managed to get it to rank at position 7 on page 1.

It spent about 3 or 4 days there but now its down to position 164.

I'll monitor to see what happens next, but what do you think? Does google wanna dance, or do they want me to play on my own in the sandbox?

Is your website new? If it is a new site, then Google dance is very likely.

The sandbox is a myth and there has not been a Google dance since 2003, so its neither.

So its not the sandbox, and its not the dance. Just a drastic and seemingly random fluctuation in the serps...?

I'm not saying it HAS to be one of the two (dance or sandbox), but if you're going to reject both at least come up with another suggestion!

I also question the credibility of the post you directed me to. Who's the author? Just sounds like one mans opinion rather than fact. (I'm not talking about the way google updates the serps now)

It's a 5, almost 6 month old website, and had remained remained high on page 2 for a couple of months, before me going back to work on it and it now being demoted to position 164.

Still likely that its the dance?

fluctuation like this happens. Websites are not in a stable environment. Rules can change and upgrades can occur in a search-engine-logic world. Just observe it for a week. Normally it will bounch back

Yes this is call Google Dance. Sometimes it happens that your keyword was on 1 page and suddenly it found nowhere. So don't worry just try to get maximum quality backlinks and check it after some time.

Its a dancing sandbox where Google sends all the naughty sites that haven't finished their supper..

Seriously though, whatever you want to call it, for a brand new site, it is very normal and all part of the fluctuating Google indexing and ranking rhythm.. Be patient, stop checking your position every 5 minutes, carry on creating great content and promoting the content on that site and soon you will be rewarded.

Checked rankings again just now and I'm back on Page 1. Not as high as I was previously (position 9 now instead of 7), but first page nonetheless. Hopefully it sticks!

Is there any way to refuse to Dance? Don't Google have any manners!
