Ranking Above A Wiki Article, possible?

Hi warriors, I want to rank top on google for a keyword but the top spot is taken up by a wiki article, is this a sign of the keyword being easy to get or the exact opposite? Thanks, Matt

  • One Wiki link does not really constitute if a specific SERP is highly competitive or easy pickin's.

    For a good answer, we would need to see the SERP and investigate the back link profiles of the ranking sites and also take into consideration, domain age, indexed pages, exact keyword mentions, etc.

    It is doable though. You can beat out a lot of Wiki articles, especially with an exact match domain, good back links, and a highly optimized site.

    • If it has only a few especially low PR backlinks then yes, if the backlinks run into hundreds then there is work to do.
  • Well the top 10 results all have less than 250 backlinks except SERP4 which has 2000+ but none of them have a exact match domain and I can get one. I can also get .edu and .gov backlinks and only 3 of the top 10 have those. Possible?

    • Wiki ranks well because it is a huge authority site and based just in that, it does well.

      Based on the details you've provided, you can outrank it just by doing good ole SEO 101.
