SEO Strategy helped. Continue with the same one?

For one of the keywords, I was able to rank from nowhere found on Google to position 23. I was using a simple linkwheel strategy with some profile links. My understanding is that Google doesn't like linkwheels anymore.

Should I continue to use the same strategy to rank in the top 5 or change it to do something different?

You need to try to get backlinks from high PR sites and build quality backlinks from forums, blogs, article directories and so on. Also, don't focus on just one keyword, try to utilize more keywords and write articles about those.

Good response as long as the backlinks are relevant and from high pagerank sites your serp positioning should rise.

The more quality backlinks you have the better

Who says linkwheels don't work anymore? They work like crazy. Like you already said, it has been proven to work for your sites, so you do the things that already worked and test other techniques, too.

    best,

Depends on how competitve your market is..

Linkwheels work well, you just have to be carful that you don't leave footprints... Randomize the linking structure and never close the loop. Also make sure you link to other sites and not just your own...

If your market is competitive, then link diversity comes into play and you will not rank highly on profiles and link wheels alone..

You can build direct back links for your website. Back links through different sources will be more helpful and can give faster results.

One of the things with Google is you have links from many difference sources. I have found that link wheels just don't do enough for your sites long term future. I would suggest doing more article marketing than anything else.

I liked you until there the rest of the answer is a bit to broad.

To the OP, you did the link wheel...now stop, concentrate this month on a different link building method, the next month concentrate on yet a different one, then get back to your link wheel (either make it bigger..or create another wheel from different properties).

Wesly's advise is a good one as well, you need to be careful with link wheels, no footprints, no closing loop etc..once caught your entire pyramid will crash and months of hard work will go down through the toilet.

Diversify your link sources (and anchors) as much as you can (like: my keyword, best of my keyword, my keyword in new york .. etc etc). Build as well links to your inner pages too and not only to your home page (they are part of the entire building the stronger they get, the stronger the entire building will become).

      Hope it helps.

In all the SEO strategies Link wheel and Link magnet both are very important and still very useful. Actually in SEO if you will not adopt new trends then you will get behind from other in this competitive world.

Thanks for generating a good thread here!
