SEO is laughably easy...

I've noticed that since the caffeine update my respect for Google has grown. Of course there are falters that I really despise about that update but at the same time when I experience the annoying part I remember that it's a fairness factor and that Google can't be perfect every time but are most of the time.

It's been a long time now and in the beginning I took a huge belief of the "get links", "keyword density", "blah blah".

Then some time back I took it into my own hands to experiment with Google.

What I found that the "get links" thing was true.. but only if my content was quality and I used the exact keyword anchor text. But even then it didn't always work.

That was tediously repetitive and for all the failed keywords it was more wasted time.

So more experimenting later and I'm where I am now with SEO knowledge and have finally discovered that SEO is laughably easy.

Now that's not saying that I can go rank for any keyword I want or that every keyword will rank but what I do know is that I can rank a higher percentage of keywords on a site than I can't

So when I build a site now I look at it from a 60/40 perspective. Where I know that right from the outset at least 60% of that site is going to be found via Google from the keywords I chose.

Here's the really laughable part - that's without chasing links and just getting a few to get the site started and leaving it at that.

In respects of blogging - just hit & miss and keep doing that until you're traffic is so booming you don't care if a post ranks or not and you also know that at least 60%+ of that content is going to be found anyway. And quite often you'll hit a hot topic and traffic doesn't stop for months on end.

In respects of ecommerce it gets a little bit more methodological where you will put that extra bit of time into tweaking the keywords to find the perfect blend and to also ensure you're covering as many as you can.

To sum that up you could just say to yourself - do you really think Warrior Forum cares what their keywords are?

No it doesn't because everyone "automatically" writes posts that just naturally end up being the same as what someone else will type into Google.

Same with any established site - they know this too and one day everyone will get to this stage of thinking and look back on all the frustrating times and think how a bit of non-conforming thinking could have changed the game long before.

This is just a ramble but some people will see exactly what I'm saying where others won't and that's where the confusion lies in translation of teaching SEO - it just can't be force fed - it has to be taken by the horns and tested until you understand it.

It definitely is laughably easy, lol.
    Programming is way harder.

Sadly, in reference to the quoted ramble, Its much more challenging to be coherent ... than to do rudimentary SEO.

Writing "quality" content is whats tedious boring and annoying ...

Did I sense a subtle hint of unprovoked hostility there?
If I'm incorrect, you'll have to forgive me for the presupposition.

I'm afraid your insinuation was somewhat unfounded. I'm a rather cultivated writer, not to mention fairly perspicacious in the realm of SEO and most subsequently related facets (including- as it would so happen- quality writing).

One might argue that programming and SEO go hand in hand.

SEO is easy if you've had hands-on experience and have access to edit, create, and adjust your content. For others that might be stuck with their content due to lack of knowledge, skill, or available resources, SEO can be difficult and a lot of work.

I'd choose to only do the SEO part over the programming all day long.

    They can go hand-in-hand.
It's one thing just to optimize and promote a site.

But real brand creation: now that can be an SEO challenge.

It's just a little bit of this and little bit of that which the programming is always the little bit of hassle.

Yeah, very true. Its laughably easy, but just so boring and tedious. What really sucks is when you work to get your site ranked for a couple major keywords, only to get your site perma-banned from Google.

I heard digging a hole is easy too for the first couple shovel fulls. After that it becomes work. Same thing goes for seo. Anyone can do it. But will they do it eight hours a day every day like the big boys do? Now that's a different story isn't it?
