I'm doing some keyword research and decided to try Traffic Travis. I have found some keywords that I think would be tough but it says easy. One that I am looking at has every site in the top 10 with over 20,000 backlinks and every site is 8 years old or more. To me, thats some tough competition.

What do you think of Traffic Travis and its thought process?

Instead of looking at their rating, look at what information they give you. They offer you enough info to determine if the keyword is tough or not.

Look at the average PR, if the keywords are in the domain name, the backlink numbers, where the backlinks are coming from, if the page is optimized for teh keyword, etc...

Traffic travis gives you all this.

I have a small site that I don't pay much attention to. It uses wordpress and has about 10 pages. Traffic Travis shows it has no age and no site or page backlinks. (In reality it has 2 backlinks from EZA articles, and is almost a year old.)

Traffic Travis ranks it at #5 on page 1. At scroogle.org, I see it at #7 on page 1.

The competition, according to TT, is mostly 10 and 11 year old sites with thousands of SITE backlinks. Only 3 of the competing PAGES have more than 10 backlinks.

TT calls this keyword "relatively easy". I think my site is ranking on page 1 because it has a domain name that exactly matches the keyword, and it is the only one of the top 10 sites that has the keyword in the Title, Description, and H1 tag.

One site isn't enough to make a judgement call about Traffic Travis, but I thought it might help to throw some data out there. I feel l could profit from this site & keyword, even with this competition. With almost no effort I'm on page 1. Unfortunately I knew a lot less when I bought the domain, and there just isn't much traffic for the keyword I picked.

Well, TT works fine for me. It may not be that powerful as compared to other softwares in the market but Traffic Travis is very competent enough to do important tasks for me. It's been my partner ever since I started out in SEO and I think the results are fair enough.

I completely ignore the difficulty level that Traffic Travis says because it's way off-base. But the tool is still awesome...you just have to analyze it yourself based on the information it gives. I find their interface one of the easiest to use and interpret.

I'm really not speaking from experience here too be honest. I've only tried Market Samurai.

I've heard people compare the two in the past and some people do tend to say negative things about TT, by comparison.

If you are using the free version of Traffic Travis...it does a pretty good job of getting the information right.

As said before....just don't look at the PR and backlinks. You can get better ranking if you have your keywords in the title, description, and H1 tags.

Add to that a lot of content....you can rank well with a new website.

I have one site in a highly competitive niche, that is less than a year old PR1...ranked #5 on Google. It took about six months to get there. So it can be done.

I also have a new website that is about 6 weeks old....PR0 in a different niche that is ranked #2 on Google. The niche is not as competitive as the first niche, but there is competition with older sites.
