Not Popping up at all for my Keyword

I have had my site up for at least 3 months. Added a new page two months ago optimized for a select keyword with moderate competition (a little less then 100 visitors via google per day). Upon uploading the page i pinged it and had 10 distinct links made through pr 2-4 blogs that are indexed. I dont show up for the first 1000 results, so Im guessing i am not ranked at all. I have more articles ready for submission but i dont want to waste them if i am not even ranked. Confused and a bit frustrated over this page as it has been two months with no result. Help please?

first of all, pinging doesn't help sites to rank on search engines.
secondly, 10 links are not enough. there are no certain numbers on how many backlinks do a site needs but, link building process must be done everyday.

just submit the articles, social bookmark them, and follow up with other forms of backlinks.

I don't think it's just a matter of throwing more back links at it and trying more of the same...If you are choosing keywords correctly at the beginning (low competition), then you should be able to rank on the 1st or 2nd page easily within 3 months, with just a few articles written and linking to it.

Another thing, I finally started succeeding in this game when I let go of worrying about the success of each individual project. You could go crazy waiting for one site to raise in the ranks. How about moving on to the next project, and the next?

I'm not saying abandon each one without doing work, I'm saying not all things are going to succeed as well as you'd like. You could make 30 websites, and only 4 of them could earn you a nice living.
