How would you SEO for a NEW info product?

I'm finishing up creating a new info product and it's not at all about internet marketing. And it's also not just a rehash of widely known info like the weight loss niche is full of.

It's a completely original ebook that deals with some stuff that can be life changing. My issue is that my knowledge of SEO extends mainly to making niche product sites where there is already thousands of searches and I'm just getting some of that for myself.

I don't know how to keyword optimize for an idea or a concept. When people search for a tangible item, they are through some means already feeling a "need" for that item. I guess my issue is more to the heart of true marketing, wherein I must somehow create the perception of need for my product. Just like a couple years ago no one knew they "needed" an ipad and then one day Apple created that sense of need.

This post feels very rambley to me so if it comes across that way, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to work through all these ideas.

That post was "rambley" but are you trying to seo a product where there are not searches for it to begin with?

It sounds like you're not sure if a market exists for this product and you're trying to create it. (bad idea)

well not searches for it in the sense that, as with the examples I gave it's not an iPad. There's no direct equivalent to it.

I think what I need is a real marketing plan of some sort to create interest as opposed to just riding the interest in someone else's product. Product niche SEO in the traditional way it is used here on WF isn't so much search engine optimization as it is search engine opportunism.

Maybe you can have a blog that write articles about your ebook. Have a faq page on what your ebook resolve and stuff like that. The more pages you have, the more keywords you can SEO for.

Typically before investing the time, effort, and energy in creating a new product there must be a desire for the product. More importantly does your product alleviate a problem being searched for, does it relieve some sort of "pain". Does it offer some sort of "pleasure"?

This research should be performed before product creation, not the other way around. If you truly believe in this product:

Place it in the clickbank marketplace, let affiliates sell this product for you. Find forums related to your niche and provide useful content with a link back to your site. Good luck with your venture. Wish you the best.

Surely there has to be some niche the book falls into. It's just finding the one with the most targeted audience. Be it self help, self growth, motivation, or so on. You can also post excerpts across the web, find affiliates, and give away condensed versions as a promotion item to capture contact info.

One of the most effective ways to pitch these intangibles is by building a persona on good strategic sites.

Setting up a blog isn't a bad idea either. Be a guru and it sounds like you are passionate about it.. there ya go!

jzmoore has a good point and reminds me of John Carlton. Addressing a problem & offering a solution is a great way to sell.

First, it's great that you are doing smth that you are passionate about. For me that is a key to keep going cause when making money with no real passion or desire is no real point (speaking of myself). For the SEO part, I do think that there is a lot of potential keywords out there that you could target if you take the time to do a thorough research. If you look at all the keywords that ppl search for I am very sure there are keywords that closely corresponds to your target. I am sometimes surprised myself at what I come up with when running SEO campaigns.

Hi there - this statement alone creates a situation requiring tremendous amount of time and investments - can you imagine what it would take to build a "completely new need"?

The advices on working with an existing needs sounds more rational and more affordable.

My advice would be the following: As you have produced your ebook based on something that you consider potentially "life changing" - I do have a feeling that there must be at least a couple thousand among the current world population of 6-7 billions that may experience the same need. SO:

Define your product with 50 separated keywords
    Do a Google Keyword Analysis
Add another 50 keywords that come up relative to the initial ones
    Start building links
Start offering barter exchange with similar product carriers
    Submit the ebook for reviews
    Play the gaaame

    Good luck!

There have been a lot of good responses here but max hit the nail on the head.
I always forget about the ability to let google tell you keyword suggestions for your domain. (though I've used it in the past to get ideas from competitors websites.

Quality link building and getting reviews is also going to have to be a big factor here.

    Thanks guys.
