Clickbank products on an Authority Site?

For my next project i want to create an authority site on about 5-10 related subjects (to gain reputation over time of course; many years).

I am wondering now if it would be a good idea to passively promote clickbank products along with others from amazon (books primarily) and other relevant services/items. My only worry at this point is to possibly have my visitors turned off by the fact that i have clickbank products there.

The sales page of some of their products can tend to look a bit scammy so I question whether this aspect of the site may diminish its authoritative appeal.

I am pretty sure with a smart design i can make it look professional regardless, but what is the consensus about using clickbank products for a large (500+ post) authority site?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is an authority site?

Im just merely referring to a large site of 500+ (shoot it could be thousands, but thats not the point, many many posts, thats the important part) that people know to refer to on a given topic.

Lets say myspiritualgrowth.com. Just an example, I just made it up, it could already exist but thats not the point. It could have a massive amount of useful information on a macro niche, meaning several topics that closely relate. People have bookmarked this site because they enjoy its content and useful information, thus it has become an authority site for its subject matter.

In that case, I think that promoting ClickBank products would work like a charm!

My rationale is that if I have really great content and my reader is hooked to wanting more, do i want to refer them to a reputable book (amazon or similar) from some best selling author, or do i show them a clickbank ebook on a similar subject. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of sites promoting clickbank products, typically highly concentrated on a single product or genre of product. What i have not yet seen is a large 500+ post site promoting several clickbank and various other affiliate network's products. So i am made to question whether clickbank products are good for the purpose i intend, a large site concentrating on a lot of diverse information rather than a micro niche site with concentrated content on an individual topic.

I have also spent time thinking about this. The approach I would take on an authority site would be to make sure that all the advertising looks like it is paying for the privilege of being seen on my site. So, I might have a mix of CPA ads from Commission Junction, and some adsense text and image ads, and then some banners for clickbank products. I might even create my own banner ads if I didn't like the ones a clickbank vendor made available, or if they were too commonly seen elsewhere and I wanted something unique.

I would NOT push clickbank products in my page content. At most, I would have an "authority" article that mentions an ebook casually, in a text link.

Yes, there is no way I am going to use my articles to lead into any offer. At most I will provide a recommended products page of books, ebooks and other items directly related to the category I have content on. So there will be several subcategories and subproducts passively promoted.

One of the main points that I want to shoot for is having a whole lot of backlinks, and quality ones at that, for my one single site with many different topics. I know this will take quite a while to do, but I want this site for long term use. I am definitely not looking for a quick buck here.

It excites me more because I am undergraduate in university studying the very topic this site will be on. I am beyond excited to begin constructing this thing *hobbles up and down*

Good luck with it all. It sounds like you'll have plenty of expertise and know the right resources to refer to, to produce content.

mihu, it hasnt really been decided yet. I have never seen a large promoting site with a lot of clickbank products, but that doesnt make it a bad thing to do i suppose. This will be a massive work in progress project ill have for quite some time while i do my studies. Regarding clickbank products, I have looked through a few that might be relevant, with about 1 out of 10 most likely making the cut for my site.

Looking at the sales page, especially for those not having made a sale in a while, one tends to see a reflection of lower quality graphics, overused site templates for sales pages and a machine spit out of a "serious call to action" to engage the reader. I have seen so much i am both desensitized to its effect, but i notice it in every sales page i have ever seen now.

I am only leaning toward amazon books because physical books tend to have this empowerment of genuine site quality. The commission is less and it takes a lot more to earn a living off of it, but thats also why the site is as large as its going to be. Much time will be spent pouring over every crevice of detail i can muster.

I hope more people comment on the clickbank product aspect of things though. I really want to know whether I should apply for some other networks to give my products some variety and not just one source.
