Choosing Best Domain Name

Hi,

I'm doing some keyword research and, of course, most of the root keywords are taken but I found adding a suffix or prefix allowed me to get those keywords. However, I'm just wondering what are the "best" suffixes or prefixes to add to the root keyword. For instance, if I was choosing "puppytraining" as the main keyword then adding a suffix like "info" sometimes will allow me to get the domain name. "puppytraininginfo.com" is taken but it's just an example.

What about using something like [mainkeyword]+1 as in the number 1 to the end? Do you think Google will not condone this?

Your thoughts?

  • why don't you shuffle the words with the main keyword in it? and still looks as a dominating domain name?
  • don't use numbers, my two cents, its better to use typo, ex: puppytraning or puppytraininf

    • How about putting your secondary keyword phrase in the url if available and if it makes sense e.g. puppytrainingtips. Then you're sweeping up both.

  • ok, but remember that was just an example off the top of my head. It would be a good idea to check keyword volume and competition etc
  • If you can, get an EMD.

  • you can use a - on your domain also, it can still rank well.
  • use http://yourkeyword411 or central or something.com

  • It's a good idea sometimes to get a an closeout domain from an auction from sites such as godaddy etc. It's sometimes possible to find domains there with the relevant keywords within them.
  • Having the exact keyword match is supposed to be about 50% of the battle. So adding info to it is going to hurt it.
