Article Submissions Still Worth The Time?

I still use articles submissions as part of an overall link building strategy for websites. I've seen some decent results in the past, but more recently I started a little case study to figure out exactly how much benefit I'm receiving from them.

I'm conducting my test on one of the most popular article submission sites out there (I'm sure you've heard of it): EzineArticles.com.

I've been tracking two approved posts so far (with more still in review) and after two weeks after approval and article indexation I have yet to receive an iota of benefit as a result.

No improvement in rank and no referral traffic so far.

Here are a couple of the keywords I'm tracking for this case study. I've got targeted anchor text to my pages for each of these keywords:


Keyword: SEO sales: Original Ave. Rank: 47 Current Ave Rank: 47

Keyword: SEO business: Original Ave. Rank: 27 Current Ave Rank: 37

Of course these two examples are not enough to reach much of a conclusion to anything. And I will continue to add more articles to Ezines and track the rank of the keywords and webpages as a result.

Still the initial findings are interesting.

What sort of specific results have you garnered as a result of article marketing?

  • 2 Articles on Ezinearticles are not going to change your rankings unless you have very very low competition. I would post the same articles to more directories. You can submit the same article to Goarticles, Articlebase, etc for more backlinks and traffic.
  • To make a valuable article submission not just with site but also a good article will do the job. If you know how to create article that everyone will hooked this can give more value to your site where you placed the links even you submitted this in not so popular or reputable site. since your article/post will give links to your site not just the entire domain.

    If you are doing article marketing to make you rank better then i believe that you need to submit many different articles to different article directories, blogs etc to see any difference =) But if your goal is to use ezine as a traffic source then you need to post articles to ezine daily and create a nice resource box =)

  • For traffic go for big article directories or if you just need backlinks go for unique article wizard. You will get great amount of backlinks and as they are well diversified they will give you good push in the SERP's.
  • I think creating high quality content then article submission and through related sites, Its still worth it.
  • ezinearticles is no doubt a very popular and useful article directory from visitors and SEO perspective as well. But it does not guarantee you that after approval and indexation you'll start achieving high ranking in Google. For that purpose you need to post your unique and informative article in so many good article directories. Keep patience. If your article is good you'll definitely get good visitors and can also get good SEO result. But only posting in ezines might not be enough.
  • Article submission is a valuable tool for building backlinks. I would keep at it, as the articles can even earn you money sometimes on some of the article submissions sites. They're also great for directing traffic in your direction. This has been the case for me however,

    If you know the rights formula on how to use article submission, its still definitely useful.
  • Articles are still valuable as it is. I'm still writing articles and submitting it various directories to gain backlinks, gain traffic and build credibility for my site. It's still effective.
  • They always have been valuable within SEO, I just started with the articles a couple weeks ago and already have about 50 hits per article. All of these are relevant links because they came from legit content.
  • Its true that articles are not giving traffic now as they suppose to do few year back, but their link has same value, submitting two articles on ezine mean two links, and keywords your are targeting required much more than two ezine links.
  • From my point of view you can gain backlinks and traffic from article directories.but make sure that the article you publish on article directory sites should be unique and fresh along with proper anchor text,so no duplicate content is there.use those directories that are of high PR and instant approve the article.
  • Main purpose of articles is backlink. And why is that backlink valuable? Because you control niche of that article. Google loves to find link in article about shoes that points to your site that is about shoes (just example).
    Off course Google knows what are article directories and he doesn't give them too much value, and that's why you don't' submit your articles to one, but to dozens of directories.
  • Is article submission worth the time and effort? Absolutely. It's a great way to build links, get more traffic, and establish yourself as an expert - all of which are a good thing.

    You definitely can't gauge your whole article marketing campaign on 2 articles, but you could definitely see some long-term success with those 2 articles. Case in point - I logged in to check my stats this morning, and found that I had gotten a couple of visits from an article I published back in May. I haven't done anything to promote that article since May, and it's still bringing me traffic today.

    My advice? Keep publishing quality articles. Every time you publish something new, bookmark it, Tweet it, get it out there. If you've got good stuff, you can see long-term results from it.
