BLS vs BL (Backlinks to top level site vs backlinks to specific page

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so I wanted to say hello and thanks to eveyone for the great forum and for helping us newbies.

The top 10 listing for the keyword that I'm researching shows sites that are very big and old. However the pages I'll be competing with don't seem to be concerned about on or off page optimization.

In Traffic Travis the BL column shows very few direct backlinks. One site has 30 the others have 0 or 1 which seems very encouraging.

However, the BLS column, (which I understand means the number of links to the TLD) shows very large numbers. For example the Amazon site has over 115 million BLS backlinks and the Youtube site has over 500 million.

Traffic Travis say my keword is relatively easy to compete with, 4 stars. Keyword Elite is less encouraging, a yellow warning with 56% difficulty.

How concerned should I be about the high numbers under the BLS column?

Also, how concerned should I be about the age of these sites?

Thanks

Elliot

If your competition has all or most of their backlinks going to the TLD, and their pages aren't optimised (or optimized if you're in the US) then that is ideal.

Whenever I see that for any keywords I want, I rub my hands with glee.

As I know I will probably get the number 1 spot eventually

It really depends on a case by case basis, but from what you've mentioned so far, it definitely sounds beatable

I'm replying to this for the benefit of anyone that stumble across this 2010 thread.

Intraffic travis, BLS is the total number of backlink to the entire site. Alone, it is not very important in ranking. Your concern should be mostly on backlinks to page.

I think some special cases exist. For example, you can not outrank ecommerce sites like Amazon or ebay for certain ecommerce queries. If I see that the top 10 are ecommerce sites, I usually run.
