Do you do SEO on your own?

I feel that there is rather a lot of work involved with SEO but it might not be the case. Article marketing, backlinking can be quite consuming right? And learning it can it be too? Is paying seo consultants/experts to do your seo work a bad thing?

If your intention is to build many sites and profit from them, SEO has to be one of your plan I guess? Well, I guess learning it by yourself is the best option.

  • Hey there,
The short answer to your questions is yes it does pay off to have someone do your SEO, In fact im a huge proponet of hiring a large team for a month, having them build thousands of links and optimize your website. Before I even had thought about SEO on my main site i was already ranked on 35+ Keywords and that was from just two days worth of work building backlinks with a 20 person team behind me. The day my site got indexed i was already ranked on the first page of the SERPS. So in my opinion, Yes, it does pay off. Just make sure you give them the right instructions, do some keyword research and be very clear on what you expect and make sure people send you reports and check them closely. Hope that helps.
  • My formula:

    Outsource to oDesk+(Scrapebox+Automaion scripts)

    works wonders

    • I use ODesk as well and it works great, Its the easiest way to outsource overseas and you can get people to work for .99 cents an hour. Cant beat that.
  • You can do it yourself BUT it's very time consuming. This may only apply for personal blogs. If you'd like to monetize your site in a business scale and you've got lots of them, outsourcing should do the trick.
  • It is very time consuming, but I outsource most of what I do. I do like to do some of the backlinking myself. It does pay off and is very beneficial to have others do it for you. I feel it is more of a personal preference. =D
  • Yes you can do it yourself but it will take a lot of your time before you start seeing results. You also have to know exactly what you are doing and all the ways that you can increase your ranking with the search engines because there are hundreds of search engines.
I have always done it myself and it has paid off for me but maybe in the future I will outsource it, just to save time.

    • I really have no clue what you were trying to say there lol
  • Certainly SEO can be done by yourself. A few tips when going about the tasks yourself:

    1. ALWAYS keep a list of all URLS that you are backlinking from.
    2. Record your search engine positions on a weekly basis in a spreadsheet and review to determine where you need more links.
    3. Review your list of URLs frequently to find out where the best quality links are and how you can duplicate the procedure.

This organisational tips have been very successful for me. As long as you know the basics of SEO, the above methods will allow you to be more efficient with your time.

    • It's time consuming! ... and you have to know exactly what you are doing, otherwise you waste your time.
  • Anyone can do seo work but it is a time consuming work so you should hire a seo person who can do seo for your sites. They don't take much money. you can hire them from free lancing web sites

    • I'm a big fan of doing everything myself. This is also one of my downfalls... doing everything myself - but it's not my full-time, only source of income job. Anyways, I keep changing projects like the OCD/ADHD moron that I am LOL! I finally found one though that I can stick with for a bit :p

I work for a big law firm that does product liabiliy/consumer protection/mass tort/class action - all the big stuff that they buy leads for from other law firms all over the country. Ya know, contigent fees??!

Anywho, just slapped together a very nice looking site for a relatively competitive keyword (two words). Damn strict XHTML and forms and Internet Explorer... That's a different story though LOL!

According to TrafficTravis my site gets an A+ for my keywords optimization (I like TrafficTravis even though it supposedly sends info back to the site).

According to SEOQuake, as of right now, the site has 185 backlinks (nofollow & dofollow) since I uploaded it Sunday and started backlinking.

Stephen Hawkins SEO Fast Indexer is a great tool. Check where your competitions backlinks are coming from. RSS, bookmarking sites, a couple articles, and take full advantage of Google when searching for your keywords and related keywords - Blogs/Discussions. Not to mention actually contributing to forums related to your niche.

Hell, I got a bunch of backlinks from an HTML forum (PR7) when the community was helping me solve the problem with my form! LOL! I know it's not related to my niche, but I'll take it!

      CHEERS! Happy Hunting!

  • SEO gives you a good result but it's a time consuming process. I used to do my own because I can't afford that much to pay to others. Even If you are making others to do for you, you should have knowledge regarding to that, so that you can understand the process which is going around you.

  • Guess I missed the question. Are you wnating to know for many mini sites or a main site?

I built a mini site about six weeks ago...haven't work on it a whole lot...and it's ranked #2 on Google. And I did all the SEO myself.

If it's a main site, if you have the money to pay for it, sure use outsourcing. But you could also do it yourself. My main site...I'm at #5 on Google and #1 on Yahoo and Bing...it took about 6-7 months working about a hour a day. That's in a very competitive niche.
  • If you are asking about is it better to do seo myself for my websites, Yes. Of course if you have enough time for doing it for your websites, its better and you have more control on it and you know what you are doing. But if you don't have time for doing it, you have to use services of another company.
  • Hello,

Anybody here know what's the importance of Bookmarking your website to any Bookmarking sites?
  • Anyone can do it by themselves but it's very time consuming. It is logical for you to outsource the job. There are lots of competent freelancers on the Internet. just be sure to pick wisely. You might bumped into neophytes and you'll just be shortchanged.

We at Regal Web also offer SEO services worldwide. Feel free to check out my signature for more information.

  • Link building is extremely time consuming it's cheaper to hire someone to do it for you
  • @Abnation

I'm kinda new. Please tell me what scrapebox and automation scripts are. Which scrape box and automation script tools would you recommend?

    @Thomarv29

I went to Odesk but couldn't find an individual who can build back links for $.99/hour. Please suggest somebody you trust/know.

    @RegalWeb

I went to RegalWeb site, but couldn't find information about back linking and its pricing. Please tell me where to go on the site.

Thank you very much fellows. Hope to get replies soon.
    Have a very nice day.

    • There are a couple of great providers on ODesk but i would actually reccomend using www.backlinkteam.com as they will manage your outsourced team for you and they dont cost much more than ODesk providers. Hope that helps.
  • Regarding oDesk, you can post a job and only allow people who work for .99c/hr to apply. You may get some very poor results though. It's worth spending a little extra and getting a decent job done, especially in SEO, cheap freelancers just don't cut it when you're going against the money-makers.

If you want to go down the freelancer route, do your research and split test a few candidates before just choosing one. You will also need to thoroughly check the work each week to ensure it is up to your standards.

In my experience, hiring people for under $3/hr results in more time on my part fixing up their errors. More cost effective hiring a decent link-builder that can actually get your pages ranked and start earning you some money.

    • Hey Dave,
Your absolutely right, one thing to mention though is that you should also look at their feedback even on the very cheap ones and you can get lucky and find someone that does a great job but is just desperate for the work. Thanks

  • The backlinkteam.com is currently having a special for $219 (but I think it is still pricey for only one article):

"Our November special includes 200 social bookmarks, 500 blog and forum comments, 100 PR5 and up backlinks, and a free SEO analysis and plan of action."

    1. If I were to do all of the above myself, would it take much longer time? From your experience, approximately how much time will the backlinkteam accomplish all the above?

    2. How do I check if they accomplished all the above?

    3. Approximately, how much time will I have to wait to see my site on page 1 of Google? Is there a way to check daily progress of my site in term of page rank?

    4. Will I have to spin my article myself using AMR (for example) before submitting to backlinkteam or do they do the spinning as well for client?

    Thank you again.
  • I don't oursource my backlinks because I am the one doing it for my websites. I do have a link building service website where I use the packets I get every month for my website first before doing it for my clients. And I do use a software to automate it and make my backlinks building easier..
  • I mainly do it myself because I simply don't trust anyone. SEO needs to be high quality, otherwise it won't have the desired effect
  • yes, SEO is time consuming but its better you do it yourself so that it ll be more effective. and you can also gain lot of knowledge during the process.
  • pretty much, ya.
  • I personally SEO my site there is an advantage if you know how to do it than outsource.
  • I guess both would be great - do some yourself and those tasks that are just boooring and tedious, outsource it.

And it is also good if you know SEO so that you know if your virtual assistants are doing their job perfectly.
  • How do we find relevant websites with good page rank to build one way back links?
    Thank you!
  • With the right software you can do it yourself real easily.

I just got out some old computers out of my basement (They run xp but are still old) installed a bunch of seo software I use, and run those all day, then I run it in the background on my laptop too.

If you have a lot of sites a ton of guys doing seo will probably help you out. But if you're just working on a few (well one) main niche like me, you probably won't have any trouble doing it yourself.
  • If you do SEO yourself then it would increase your confidence level if your site ranking is good.

However, you can learn it easily by visiting in SEO forums as well.
  • seo is time consuming so if you have budget then you can hire an expert ..he can do it in much less time as he's aware what all he need to do..but do check what all techniques he'll be using..
  • If you are just starting out, I would suggest do the things yourself.

Make notes of all the things you do so you know what helped you to get better rankings.

Once you understand the basics, you can outsource. Make sure you give specific instructions on what to do and how to do it.

    Cheers
    Ajeet
  • yes , I have ben working in this field for last two years. It all depends on the kind of budget and the compatibility of those keywords that you have selected for optimization..

  • no, im planning to hire a person for that after few months
  • I actually hire an SEO specialist to work on my website, i pay for almost 300$ a month..
  • I do my own SEO. I usually add my site to a link building program to get the ball rolling and if it looks like my site is doing well and will make money then I spend some time building my own links manually from high PRs
  • doing most job by my self, sometimes post a job on odesk etc.
  • It's almost impossible to do your own SEO if you have many sites to manage, seo is simple but so much time consuming, I say use the freelancers in odesk, it's affordable and get the job done.
