Is Getting Backlinks 50% Of SEO Work?

I'm feeling that I'm writing a good content but I don't get what I want all the time, my SEO strategy is powerful but it take time to build, before I started getting backlinks, I working to publish a good content, but some of my competition they just setup a new site or post in their site and they write as coming up content & they working getting backlink, so google rank them very well, in launch of product they still keeping the first positions but only they change the content of the site, which means! I think building backlinks is more important for rank well first for short time.

if yeah, how google will knows that you'll or changed your content after few days of rank you well!

if you don't agree, from my experience still looking for a great content but after what! after losing the gold days!

what you think! which strategy do you agree works best? don't forget in this situation I'm talking about promoting launch product or trend event!

    • Quality link building combined with good content can mean a lot. Don't just focus on one without the other though.

      I would not recommend building too many backlinks without content though. Yes you could most likely build a few safely, but what would be the point of putting the cart too far before the horse?
  • Building links is probably 95% of SEO... the other 5% is what you should have started with -- proper on-page optimization (getting all of your tags, titles, etc. done correctly). After that, it's all about building links. There are a ton of different ways to go about doing it (using both on-site techniques and off-site), but that's what's going to make you popular and relevant - and wind up with a higher search engine ranking.
  • SEO is entirely based on quality content and quality link building. Linkbuilding is the major part of SEO, say 80-90%.
  • I like to think it's 70%. But I'm eccentric and I employ unconventional strategies.
