Choosing a Keyword: HighSearch/HighComp or LowSearch/LowComp

I've been doing some keyword research and was wondering what everyone's experience is with a scenario like this.

I'm looking at two keyphrases in a niche to get an exact match domain for

The first carries about 6000 monthly searches (according to the adwords keyword tool), but the first 5 or so results have a hefty page rank.

The second has about 1300 monthly searches, but has little competition with any clout.

Which is the better option?

I would go for the second option and then work on the first option later.

depends on how much work there is to break into the 6000. how much is your product worth... time and value.

If you can get the exact match domain with those exactly searched keywords, and your competition doesn't have the exact match domains or longtails...

Still comes the question: How much work are you willing to do?

If you are going after traffic, then there is probably more traffic in 6000 searches per month rather than the 1300.

Then again, how much work are you willing to put in to rank for that keyword? Only you know how much work you are willing to do.

Ask all the questions you want, but in the end they will all be answered by just doing it!... Get to work!

There is one other exact match with the high traffic keyphrase that is ranked 3rd.

I'm thinking I go for the lower traffic.
