I'm soooo happy right now! My domain has been hovering around #5-6 for the last week or so and I finally made it up to #2! The domain is only about 3 weeks old. I purchased it on October 24th and this is how I did it.

On site SEO:
- KEYWORD PHRASE IN DOMAIN (most important!)
- H1 tags
- H2 tags
- over 500 words of keyword rich text pertaining to the subject matter
- one time the phrase is bolded, another time it is italicized
- At the end of the page the phrase is mentioned again linked back to the site
- articles are written as subpages with relevant keywordy material. I had the blog on a subdomain, but I made the change to put the blog on a sub folder instead and I think that's what bumped me up to #2

Off site SEO:
- blog commenting on relevant topics, not off topic blogs
- backlinks campaigns with scrapebox
- several hub pages (maybe 1 squidoo lens? I can't remember..anyway I prefer hub pages)
- bookmarked on all of the popular social bookmarking sites
- got a list of high pr domains from Fiverr to submit to and did.
- linked to some EDU domains and even got one GOV (and amazingly on topic!)
- aggressive article marketing campaigns. At least 2 a week.
- Yahoo Answers....only answering relevant topics to my domain and putting the domain in the "source" box and not only using my root domain, but several nested URLS inside my page. Many times my listings are chosen as "best answer".

That's it really! It's been a hard 3 weeks worth of work but it's paid off! Thanks to everyone here for your big help on the forum and the special people who have helped in PMs...you know who you are.

Bam! You got it. Now just duplicate that over and over again n different niches. Also, make sure to keep building back links to the site to keep it up there and eventually take the number the spot.

Don't freak out when your site drops back a few spots or even a few pages in the next few weeks because that will be normal and if you keep building back links you'll come back ranking even better.

    Regards,

    Great Job,

Here is a graph of only one of my newest keywords. I just about had a heart attack
when it dropped of the charts...lol But it bounced back before I needed oxygen...lol

So don't panic if it bounces around some before it settles down.

    Have a Great Day!

    Jennifer,
    Great work and great results!

A couple more things you might also want to try is to include H3 and H4 tags (keyword rich) as well as using underline (along with italics and bold as you mentioned).

Also, if you can include an image on the page that has the keyword in the filename and directory as well. i.e. puppytraining/puppy-training-tips.jpg

    Here's to you hitting #1

    All the best,
    Jack Duncan

That's good to hear. How is the competition though? Are you competing with some sites that are heavy hitters that you've managed to beat out? It'd be interesting to hear.

I have a site I started 4 days ago that is already indexed with a couple backlinks and ranked 14th for a fairly competitive keyword in that certain niche. Getting ready to drive that sucker up to a 1st to 5th spot ranking within the next week or so

It's all about taking action (well, and knowing HOW to take action, too), which is what you've done here. Hope you're seeing a flux of traffic swarming through to your site!

Yeah I'm up against some pretty good competition. The niche is in baby/toddlers/parenting niche and there are some big sites out there like Nickelodeon's Parents Connect and others that I beat out.

I am curious did you do the same thing everyday that is listed in offsite, for instance how many blogs would you comment on a day? If you do this daily do you have to find different blogs every day to comment on? Same thing for yahoo answers how many a day??

Maybe 10-20 blogs a day and maybe about 10-20 Yahoo Answers. I know everyone says they're nofollow but for some reason they show up in my backlinks in Y! Site Explorer.

Just a heads up, if you've been spamming backlinks with scrapebox, without the use of buffer pages or similar style techniques, then the chances are you'll drop down in the rankings. If you haven't though, good job! What's was the competition like for the keyword? Congratulations, pretty fast for #2 spot, now go and get that #1!

You could build a blog that continually grows and eventually rank 2 within a few seconds. Then keep building until you have many hundreds of posts and many number 2 rankings. Without all the backlinking, hub pages, squidoos and so on.

Best advice anyone can listen to as otherwise you'll be chasing and chasing and chasing instead of growing and growing and growing.

I'm not sure if you caught it in my original post, but I do have a blog that continually grows.

Oh I guess I didn't post about the blog. Well yes there is a blog too. LOL

I really needed to start a experiment of my own how a solid nofollow campaign is doing for a site. I surely dont pay much attention to dofollow/nofollow while blog commenting. Because i have got results from both.

But to arrive on a conclusion, i thought of starting a niche site commenting only on nofollow and see the result. Not started yet, but need to soon. At least i will form a opinion of my own than trusting some other knowledgeable guys.

    Good work!

What exactly do you mean by "- aggressive article marketing campaigns. At least 2 a week." ?

Also, how does having an attached blog help your SEO? Or are you using it to draw traffic?

    thanks and congrats

Using Article Marketing Robot to submit to over 600+ directories.

The blog is helping SEO with long term keyword phrases. I had the blog on a subdomain and I think that's what was holding me down to the #5 spot. When I put it on a subfolder instead, I got bumped up to #2 and now #1.

If you have a good domain and the competition is not very big, you can obtain relatively easy good positions in Google. However, it's a little bit difficult to be careful with a lot of domains in the same time.

How commpetitive is your niche? How many exact searches per month, how many search results with and without quotes, how many search results with and without quotes in the allintitle and allinurl sense, how old, high-PR and trusted are the other first page entries etc?

By the way, how well did article marketing robot work? Did it deliver the promises? Do most of the articles get submitted? And do most of the articles that get submitted get published?

Too many questions, but personally I believe these are relevant ones, and also tried to steal a bit of product review of AMR - something that I had thought of buying some time back but didn't end up buying eventually (and for a reason that has to do with me rather than the rpoduct) from a successful user

Monthly searches for my phrase 27,000+
I honestly don't know the with or without quotes information and I don't even know how to check that. Enlighten me.

My PR bar on the Google toolbar isn't really working right now but I would say that the other competition is between PR4-PR6. I was just going to post a thread about that actually and will be doing so after this.

I have only had Article Marketing Robot for about 4 days and have done it twice so far. So I don't know about acceptance yet. Plus there are over 600 article sites, I don't think I'm going to be able to check them all. I will just be checking the big ones. Prior to owning this software I was hand-submitting to about 20 of the biggest article sites and had no problems getting accepted by any.

    Congrats Jennifer.

Would you please explain your blog setup. It sounds like you have a website with one main page related to your niche, then you have a blog setup as a subfolder.

    1. Do you have a link on your main page to the blog?
    2. For article marketing...do the articles have a backlink to your main page and one to a blog page?
    3. What script/software are you utilizing to generate your blog pages?
    4. Are you using WP3 built-in subdomain/page feature for your blog?
