As i know Title Tag characters should be Limited to 60-80. I think after the 80 characters google bots doesn't read that characters. But Plz check this site "Ulagalla Resorts". This site Title has 776 characters. When you search "Vessagiriya Ruins and Caves". You Can see google bots read that keyword and display this page in to the first SERP page.

Guys any ideas?

I think title tag should not more than 70 to 80 characters. Its also true that many sites have more than this length but this is not good according to google.

Google will only read the first 70 characters of the Title tag.

Google will only display the first 70 characters of the Title tag in the results.

Therefore, it is recommended to use 70 characters..

However, you will not get penalized for using more...

Yes google doesn't really bother if you have more but they simply don't read them. Don't worry if it's more but if you can help it then limit it to 70 max. Also make sure you get a few of your keywords in the titles but don't use the same on every page or Google does penalise you. By this i mean don't replicate!!! move them about by all means but don't replicate!!!!

    Doesn't matter.

VacuumWizard.com has a long title (close to 70 characters)

but still gets optimized for all 3 keyword phrases.

Obviously the competition for that term is so low that google is having to go out of it's way to find something to return results for it. I mean look at the search results for that term. Most of the first page is filled with forum posts where you asked this same question.

If there was any competition for the term it would not show up.

That's funny. He obviously thinks he's gaining a keyword advantage. He's not. Here's the complete "title":

Like others have said, he is where he is, because he has no real competition

    Woah woah woah guys.

    The way I understand it:
    1) You can have long title tags. If Google thinks it's too long, it will create its own custom tag from snippets of your title. That being said, stuffing isn't recommended

    2) Google reserves the right to also replace titles where every page on the domain has the same title or where the title is clearly being stuffed with keywords.

    3) Google will select a title from snippets when the page has a generic title (index, untitled, etc.)

Title tag is not the only SEO technique why a site ranks well. You can have many characters, but Google will only take the first 60 and ignore the rest but it won't penalize your site for that. His site rank well probably with a lot quality backlinks and other factors.

IMHO it doesn't make sense to put like 700 characters in a single title, because you can't optimize a single webpage for that many different keywords or phrases anyways (if there is any competition at all).. A title tag has a certain amount of power and it is divided between the entered keywords, so by entering such a long title you just dilute the value of each keywords...

Its better that you limit your title tag short but who said Google doesn't index more than 80 characters of title tag? It index all title tag but shorter is better in most cases for ranking.
